On my iPad I used the app iMovie to connect internet images, a soundtrack, and a voice layover from a microphone to a video. In this video it shows all of the sports that I love to do. I first had to find my images, this was a long process because I had to make sure that the image was under a creative commons search setting making it not copyrighted. Second, I had to put all my images onto a video template, to do this I used the app iMovie to adjust the time and placement of my images. Next, I put a few subtitles to some of my images, this was a little hard since most of my images are only on the screen for 2-3 seconds. Then, I added a few soundtracks that I felt were appropriate for each section of the video. Finally, I used the microphone to do a narration of my video to give insight to the viewer.
During the process of making my iMovie, I was able to learn quite a few things, for example how to adapt google settings, how to connect images into a video, how to add a music background, and finally to put a voice over on a video. Of all these things I have to say that I was most excited when I learned how to connect all my images onto a video, this is because it was one of the main parts in my video and it let simple pictures transition into a film. I also liked to learn how to add a music background simply because, I liked the difference it made from awkward silence to a colorful video.
Of the 7 standards that Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for Students has set (Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator) My project ties to Computational Thinker. I chose to tie this standard to my iMovie project because in order to be a Computational Thinker you must use online tools to complete a model, which I did by using my iPad and microphone to make a video. You also must brainstorm solutions to problems, I did this by spending time thinking about how to make my video not too long but still comfortable for the viewer. Also, I needed to describe how and what I did with my online tools to get my video, I did this by following the student reference sheet to answer questions about my creation project. This is why in my project I was being a Computational Thinker.
A challenge I overcame on this project was trying to fit all of my images and thoughts in my video without it being so long. I was able to do it by not finding to many images, and keeping my thoughts organized. You'll find in my video that there are sections of sports, tennis, swimming, basketball, and cross country, these all have images that relate to that specific sport. Most of these genres are the same length of time, this helped overcome the problem I faced. It also helped that when I added my subtitles I realized it would be easy to make a lot of my images have less time in the video, making the entire video shorter.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the Ken Burns effect to make it more formal. The reason why I would change it is because, while sometimes it is nice to go from a broad image to focus on the main idea of the image, other times it can be a little creepy. I saw this in my video after viewing it a couple of times, I realized that it was informal and might give the watcher a difficult time seeing the real purpose of my focusing in. This is why in the future I would not keep the Ken Burns affect in my video.
