Using cardboard, scissors, an iPad, and glue, I created a suit of armor. I carefully cut and shaped each piece so it would fit my body. Then I assembled the pieces with glue to make a wearable set. I did this because I wanted to experience how it felt to have a suit of armor on.
During this process, I learned how to measure and fit pieces together accurately. At first, I struggled with precision, but I soon realized that checking my work twice was essential for a good result. Fitting the parts required patience because I had to adjust them until they aligned perfectly without any gaps. By the end of the project, I felt much more confident in my ability to build things correctly.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to because Global Collaborator, because I shared my work to the world. It also is on a website that people can go into.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the cardboard would not want to glue together. I was able to do it by cutting off rectangular pieces to have a bigger spot for the cardboard to glue to. I was also able to fix that problem by getting duck tape and taping them together.
if given the chance to do this again, I would change the size of the leg armor. I would make this adjustment because one piece was too big to stay on securely, while the other was too small to fit properly. This imbalance made the final product difficult to use and uncomfortable to wear. Fixing these measurements would make the project turn out much better.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Construction Trades CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects because I used cardboard to design and put together a suit of amour.
My project connects to the career of a structural packaging designer because of the way I constructed the suit. I used skills like cutting, bending, and folding cardboard to turn flat materials into a three-dimensional form. This process is similar to what professionals do when they create prototypes and product packaging. It showed me how much planning is needed to build something that actually fits together and works.
