Using cardboard, scissors, glue, and an iPad, I created a head for my Minecraft armor suit. I made this because I wanted something to hold the helmet’s shape. It helps keep the helmet from collapsing when I’m not wearing it. The project also let me be creative while improving the design of my armor.
During this process, I learned how to take measurements so my face would fit properly. I practiced adjusting sizes to make the head comfortable. This helped improve the overall design of my project. It also taught me how important accurate measurements are when building something.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects to Global Collaborator. This is because it is shared on a website that everyone can access. By posting it online, I can share my work with others and connect with a wider audience.
A challenge I faced during this project was not knowing how to measure properly. I struggled at first to get the correct sizes. I overcame this by watching a YouTube video that explained how to measure. This helped me improve my project and make it fit better.
Given a chance to do it again, I would avoid bending the cardboard too much when shaping it. The reason why I would change it is because, bending it too far caused some of my measurements to be off. This made parts of the project not fit as well as I wanted. Being more careful would help improve the final result.
Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design program. It involves planning, creating, and improving a design. This matches the skills taught in that CTE pathway.
My project connects to careers in construction because planning ahead is very important. You also need to measure carefully before cutting materials. In my project, I had to do both of these steps to make it work correctly. This shows how similar my project is to real construction work.
