Picture of the makey makey.
Using Makey Makey and tin foil, I created a makey makey keyboard that you're able to use whenever because I wanted to create something different with the makey makey's other than a game controller or a piano. I also wanted to do this project so I could have something that would take more time and requires me to have to actually think and test out different things.
During this process, I learned more about how makey makey's work and how to fully use them to their best ability because before I barely knew how to use them and that is part of the reason I decided to work with makey makey's so I could challenge myself and learn how to use the makey makey's better than before. I also learned how to get them to type out letters or how to actually get the makey makey's to work when intended to be used.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to computational thinker because I didn't know how to get the makey makey's to type out letters and it took me many times and many different situations in order to figure out how to get them to actually type the letters out when tapped or used.
A challenge I overcame on this project was figuring out mainly how to use the makey makey's because I had never actually used the makey makey's by myself so I didn't know how to use them or even how to get the makey makey's to type out the leters when I tapped the tin foil together. I was able to do it by taking the time to look over the makey makey's setup and trying things out, I was also able to over come these challenges by trying a bunch of different situations. I started off by testing out a piano first and then moved on to figure out how to create my keyboard.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change it by making it type out more letters or by making the keyboard bigger for more letters to be typed out at once like a real keyboard. The reason why I would change it is because then if someone were to actually want to use this make-shift keyboard they'd have more letters to use for when they're typing. I would also add onto the keyboard to make it more of a challenge for me because the makey makey's only have a few letters so then it'd be more difficult for me to try and figure out how to get more letters.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the computer program CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in programming and designs because I had to program the makey makey to be able to type letters out onto the google document, and I'm sure people would be able to use it in the future, it also connects to digital media because I had to create a design, program it, and it's digital, many people who create stuff use digital and in this case that would be the computer and people also use media to spread and show off what they have made.
1. Are you working by yourself or in a team?: I am working alone.
2. What materials will you need for your project?: I will need tin foil
3. What is your plan to create in this project?: I plan to make a keyboard using makey makey's.
4. What unique qualities will your project have?: My project would be different because I will be using the Makey Makey's to create a keyboard that you're able to use.
