For my project, I made a podcast using a green screen room and microphones. I thought it would be fun to try something new. During the project, I learned how to use the green screen, which was a cool experience. I got to see how backgrounds can be changed and made the podcast look more professional. I also practiced editing, which was a good skill to work on.
In our class, we focus on 7 standards: Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project fits with the "Innovative Designer" standard because we were allowed to choose what we wanted to do. I liked this because it gave me the freedom to be creative and figure out how to use technology in a fun way.
One challenge I had during the project was figuring out how to use the green screen. I wasn’t sure how to set it up or how to get the background to look good. I solved this problem by visiting Mr. Renner’s website for advice. Once I learned how to use it, the process became easier.
If I could do this project again, I would change the subject of the podcast. We recorded it early in the college football season, so there wasn’t much to talk about yet. Choosing a different topic would have made it easier to find more interesting things to discuss.
Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program offers classes in many areas like Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, and more. My project connects to the Engineering Design program because I had to solve problems and use design skills to make the podcast work. I also used video editing, which is part of the Digital Multimedia program.
Lastly, my project is connected to careers in video editing because I had to edit the podcast. I learned how to cut and adjust the audio and video. It was interesting to see how important editing is in many jobs, especially in media and entertainment.
