For this project, I used iMovie on an iPad to create a video about how I have changed since last year. This assignment helped me reflect on my personal growth while also giving me the chance to build my video editing skills. I learned how to use various tools in iMovie to tell a story, and the process allowed me to explore my creativity through both visuals and sound.
One of the biggest things I learned during this project was how to use sound more effectively. I experimented with background music, sound effects, and voiceovers to enhance the mood and message of my video. This helped me understand how important sound is in making a video more engaging and professional.
My project connects to the “Innovative Designer” standard because I used digital tools and technology—like an iPad and the internet—to create and edit my video. I had to think creatively about how to organize my ideas, choose visuals, and present my message in a meaningful way. Using technology to bring my ideas to life made me feel like a true digital creator.
A challenge I faced during this project was finding media that was not protected by copyright. At first, it was hard to find usable music and images. However, I was able to overcome this by learning about and using Creative Commons licenses. This helped me understand the importance of respecting other people’s work and using digital resources responsibly.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would focus more on improving the transitions between scenes. Although my video turned out well, I feel that the transitions could have been smoother and more creative. By spending more time on this part of the editing process, I could make the video flow better and look even more professional.
This project connects to the Digital Multimedia program offered by the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program at Hastings High School. By working on this video, I got a small taste of what it’s like to work in multimedia production, which is one of the focus areas of the CTE program.
Finally, this project helped me explore potential careers related to video editing, such as becoming a film editor or working in digital media. By editing a video myself, I gained hands-on experience and learned what skills are needed in this type of work. It showed me that creating media can be both fun and a possible career path.
