What unique qualities will your project have?
A camper and fire, it will also have 3 people representing my family. I will also have "The Kings" written across the top.
Day 1:
I created a page on my website.
Day 2:
I started to make the sign and used different fonts.
Day 3:
I continued making the sign and adjusted the sizes of the letters and words. I also added people roasting marshmallows over a fire.
Day 4:
Mother's day is coming up so I wanted to make my mom a sign with her favorite baking saying.
Day 5:
I started writing my reflection paragraphs. I then worked on making more designs and signs.
Day 6:
I finished writing my reflection paragraphs and sent the link of my project to my administrator to start carving it. I adjusted the placements of the designs as needed.
Using a CNC machine and Easel, I created a new camping sign because my parents anniversary is coming up and they wanted to get a new sign. We have had our sign for years and the paint is starting to chip off. I haven't gotten anything big for my parents before so I thought this would be special.
During this process, I learned how to use the Easel app. I had to also learn how to use the CNC machine. I learned that depending on what design you want you can pick different styles. I asked friends for help when needed. I also had to learn about what woods are best for CNC machines.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I had to design different things using an online website.
A challenge I overcame on this project was trying to find a font for the words that showed up on the simulation. I was able to do it by using multiple fonts. I had to adjust the sizing of everything to have everything fit. After I fixed sizing and fonts I checked it on the simulation.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the sign I made. The reason why I would change it is because I chose something I knew how to design. I would make a recipe card or even a charcuterie board next time. I thought I should start with something easy knowing that this was my first time. Now that I have more knowledge I want to make something a little more difficult.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the construction trades CTE program at Hastings High School. This is because I used a wood cutting machine to make something.
My project connects to careers in CNC machining because I used a CNC machine and had to program it. I also had to pick out the wood I would use carefully because if I used the wrong type of wood it wouldn't show up well or might split.
