Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By myself
What materials will you need for your project?
Adafruit, USB port, an iPad, makecode.com, and a computer
What is your plan to create in this project?
What unique qualities will your project have?
Music, lights, rhythms, melodies, light patterns.
List of 10 Good Ideas:
Music
Ambulance sirens and lights
Different volumes
Strobing lights
Repeating lights
Rainbow light sequence
Melodies
Logos
Loading circle
Morse code using lights
Day 1:
I started using the Adafruit and made different codes and tested them on the Adafruit.
Day 2:
I added music to the codes and made new sequences including strobing light patterns. I made melodies and added sound sequences.
My video
Day 3:
I made a loading light pattern and used a melody sound. I also made a fire alarm pattern using red and white light sequences. I tried out different melodies and tempos to see which matched the light patterns best.
Day 4:
I continued to make different codes and tested them on the Adafruit. I checked which pattern looked the most interesting and unique. I also tried to make a song.
Day 5:
I continued the process of making different light sequences. I also made songs using different music keys and codes. I attempted to make Morse code but it turn out how I wanted.
My video
Day 6:
I continued to make new codes and music patterns for the Adafruit. Some of the codes I made didn't turn out how I wanted so I had to adjust the codes to work better and more fluent.
My video
Day 7:
I started writing my reflecon sheet using the template. I then continued with making codes and adjusting them as needed.
Day 8:
I finished my reflection sheet and added my photos and videos to my daily log. I then retested a few of my codes to make sure I actually liked how they turned out.
Using makeacode.com, an adafruit, a computer, and an iPad, I created multiple different codes because I thought that this would be fun to experiment with. I had never used an Adafruit before so I wanted to see what it was like to code with it. I found it was very similar to micro bits.
During this process, I learned how to make semi difficult codes. These codes included songs that I combined together like Spirit of the Stallion by Brian Balmages and Carpathia by William Owens. I used my prior coding knowledge to make a few more challenging codes.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to computational thinker because I used technology to make my project. My project also ties to creative communicator as I used helpful websites when I had issues with the codes. I watched videos and asked my fellow classmates for help when I got confused.
A challenge I overcame on this project was my codes not working. I was able to do it by changing the codes to something similar but with different patterns. This allowed my codes to work better on the adafruit. I also noticed that some of the codes wouldn't download so I unplugged and plugged the adafruit USB back into the computer which worked.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the difficulty of the codes. The reason why I would change it is because after working with the adafruit the codes started to become easier and I want a bit of a tougher challenge. I would try to make even more songs and technique patterns. I would try to attempt more light patterns and frequencies.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the computer programming CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in coding because I had to learn how to code and make patterns using coding apps and websites. I used my coding knowledge to learn how to make new codes. I used technology to create patterns and music which I then downloaded and synced with the adafruit. My project could also tie to careers in programing. I had to program my adafruit to make sure that it worked. I also programmed the codes and frequencies for the adafruit.
