Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by myself
What materials will you need for your project?
My iPad, my computer, and my cube to put my coding onto
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to make different islands
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will have different,` people, and all different islands.
Made list of 10 things, filled planning questions, and finished first side, working on second
finished 2nd, 3rd, and working on 4th side.
Finished the cube!
Finished movie!
Started Reflections and added movie to website
I finished my reflections, finishing this project!
Using a MERGECUBE, my computer, and an iPad, I created something in AR because I thought that it would be pretty interesting to see such random things into one. Also, I used my computer to make my daily log and post my video of the MERGECUBE to my website. Finally, I used my iPad to make my movie for my project, and tested my MERGECUBE. How the MERGECUBE works is that it is like a QR code, and when the iPad scans it, it projects what you put on the cube.
During this process, I learned how to make a "story". How I learned was messing around with all the different things on a MERGECUBE. Also, it only took me 5 days to finish my cube. I also learned how to make the stuff stick onto the cube. Fun fact, I did almost use a MERGECUBE when I was in 4th grade, but then never used one again until this project. I am surprised that this only took 6 days, when I had to do a lot of clicking and testing.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Learner, Innovative Designer, and Creative Communicator because, like an Empowered Learner, I used my computer and iPad to achieve and demonstrate how successful my goal was by posting the process onto my website and reviewing what my cube shows. Then, like an Innovative Designer, I developed, tested, and refined my coding on a MERGECUBE. Lastly, like a Creative Communicator, I created my own story on a MERGECUBE.
A challenge I overcame on this project was dong a voiceover on a video. I was able to do it by being confident in myself, didn't think about it, and just read the bubbles and what they would say in their situation. I think the voiceover is funny because of how I sounded, purposely. My video now has more detail to it because of the voiceover. This project took some researching of what the app/website had.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change what I made. The reason why I would change it is because it goes off the walls, which is also the whole point. I also wish they had more stuff we could have to place down, like googly eyes or mythical creatures. This project, when working on it, felt like the MICRO:BIT where it seemed tricky at first, but then got more simple after every side.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. The reason why my project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program is that I engineered my cube and designed it.
My project connects to careers in Electrical Design Engineer, Systems Engineer, and Controls Engineer because they focus on designing electrical systems for various products and infrastructure. It also ties to System Engineers because they manage the design, integration, and testing of complex electrical systems. Lastly, it connects to Controls Engineers because they specialize in the design and management of systems and machinery in industries like manufacturing and aerospace.
