As the Student-Athlete Success Coordinator, Mickaela serves as the connecting bridge between individuals' role as an athlete and their role as a student. Her goal is to help our student-athletes thrive as best they can in all aspects of their lives, including but not limited to, academics, social engagement, and mental health. Mickaela works closely with the coaches, athletic department, and student engagement team to make sure student-athletes get the best, well-rounded support possible. She also serves as the advisor of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Hope120, our mental health awareness group on campus. She oversees Intramural Sports and serves as a Community Living Coordinator in the Bronco Village Apartments. In her free time, you can find her walking her Great Dane Maggie, who loves all the students here at HC.
Mickaela comes to us from her hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercyhurst University in 2019, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Sport Studies. She continued on to earn her Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology in 2021 from Chatham University, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Throughout her years of schooling, she completed multiple internships in the areas of sports counseling, athletic operations, and career counseling. She specializes in working with student-athletes and has experience in mental performance enhancement techniques, team workshops, interest exploration, and career identity building. Mickaela is a Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Practitioner and is currently working on her hours to become a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner. She follows a strength based, positive psychology, cognitive-behavioral orientation.
This is a great opportunity to meet fellow athletes and talk about a topic that is mental health oriented.
