What is Federal Work Study?
FWS provides on campus employment opportunities. Just like any other part-time student employment, students must apply, interview, and be offered a job. Money earned through the FWS job will not be credited towards your Hastings College student account; instead, you will receive the money through college payroll.
How can I receive Federal Work Study Employment?
FWS funding is offered to students who complete the FAFSA. You must have financial need, which is determined by your cost of attendance minus SAI (Student Aid Index) minus scholarships and other need-based financial aid. First year students are typically offered $1500/year; however, based on financial need, your schedule and your position, some students can earn more per year.
What do I do if I've been offered Federal Work Study in my financial aid offer?
If you are interested in on campus employment, when your Financial Aid portal is open, you will log in and accept this award. You can find open positions at CAREER SERVICES.
How do I renew Federal Work Study?
Complete your FAFSA annually. As long as you have financial need (as defined by FAFSA), and you've worked on campus the previous year, you'll be offered a FWS award. The award amount will be based on an estimate of your previous years' employment. Federal Work Study cannot be awarded without a FAFSA on file. Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-serve and need-based basis.
There are campus employment positions that are not federal work study positions. Career Services assists with student seeking employment placement.
