What makes Renzulli Academy unique? 

Renzulli Academy was founded by Dr. Joseph S. Renzulli and Dr. Sally Reis with the mission to serve the gifted and talented students of the City of Hartford. The school follows the Schoolwide Enrichment Model of learning developed by Dr. Renzulli. Teachers at Renzulli Academy are trained in the SEM and strive to engage students by identifying each student’s unique gifts and talents and fostering learning experiences that build on their unique interests. Students thrive in this educational environment because they are celebrated for their individuality and supported to find their own learning pathway to success.  


How big is Renzulli Academy? 

Renzulli Academy has about 130 students. 


What are your entry points for enrollment? 

Students are invited to apply for enrollment based on their academic performance. Students are evaluated based on the three-ring model of giftedness: academic ability, creativity and task commitment 


Where do students go after eighth grade? 

The Academy currently has two pathways within the district:  

Great Path Academy 

Classical Magnet School 


What is the school’s commitment to diversity? 

The school is committed to serving the students of Hartford and our population reflects that of the community we serve. 


Can Renzulli Academy serve the learning needs of every child? 

Renzulli Academy strives to serve the needs of every one of our students. 


Are there school uniforms? 

Yes. The school follows the Hartford Public Schools uniform requirements. Students wear khaki pants with a navy shirt. 


Does Renzulli Academy offer a character education curriculum? 

Yes. Teachers at Renzulli have been trained by The Copper Beech Institute and strive to support students to develop character through reflective thinking and mindfulness practice. 


What sports can Renzulli students participate in? 

Currently the school offers volleyball and basketball 


Are there opportunities for parent involvement at Renzulli Academy? 

Yes. Renzulli has an amazing PTO and School Governance Council that is actively involved in events and programming at the school. In addition, parents are always needed to support the many field trips that our students take as part of their enrichment education.
