Project Oceanology's Connecticut River Connections program is an inter-district grant program funded by the Connecticut State Department of Education. The program is designed to bring urban, suburban and rural districts together through hands-on marine science lessons, labs, and field research. About 900 middle school students from Hartford, Middletown, Hebron, Glastonbury, East Haddam, Region 8, Westbrook, Manchester, and Portland are paired up to work together 7 times a year. Our trips range from dredging the bottom of Long Island Sound for marine invertebrates to Bald Eagle Watching down the Connecticut River. The program engages students in a hands-on, personal, and exciting science immersion that puts students at the forefront of their learning.
2020-2021 COVID-19 Modifications: Project O will be offered virtually to sixth graders during the 2020-2021 school year. The leaders at Project O are working tirelessly to ensure their virtual programming is as engaging, personal and exciting as their in-person programming.
Hartford Performs brings visiting artists into Hartford Public Schools to teach curriculum in creative new ways. Renzulli Academy has been a part of the arts program for over 5 years. Our students visit area arts organizations to ensure they experience professional dance, music, theater and museums. Hartford Performs also provides us with opportunities to bring in artists to teach the creative arts to our students. Hartford Performs program aligns well with our enrichment model of Type I’s, Types II’s, and Type III’s.
2020-2021 COVID-19 Modifications: Hartford Performs will offer its programming virtually during the 2020-2021 school year. The Hartford Performs teaching artists have been revising their student workshops in order to present them virtually while maintaining the authentic arts experiences.
Renzulli Academy has had a long-standing community supporter and partner in The Wadsworth Atheneum. The local museum frequently opens its' doors for our students to enjoy classroom field trips, providing well versed docents to lead our group through permanent and temporary collections. The Wadsworth also welcomes our students during after-school experiences, self-titled Museum Masters, in which students focus on connections between academics and art through engaging tours and hands-on art making in a small group setting. A freshly minted connection with the Wadsworth is their support of our Wadsworth Walkers, in which interested student artists walk over to the museum with materials in hand for an hour of silent sketching. The fantastic relationship with the Wadsworth Atheneum continues through their ongoing offers for free bussing, free entrance fee for our groups, and their generous hosting of the Hartford Youth Art Renaissance experience. This annual event invites all Hartford Public Schools to submit three works of art for exhibition in the museum's classic space with open invitations for all to view the creative works.
Renzulli students have the opportunity to take part in the performing groups at the University of Hartford, Hartt School. These groups are by audition only. Renzulli has had students in the weekend band and orchestra programs at Hartt, and in the Connecticut Children's Chorus for the past 6 years. We also have students who study privately at Hartt on scholarship.
Renzulli students have also attended the Litchfield Jazz Camp on recommendation from the school. Our students have had access to scholarship money to attend this prestigious summer program.
