The Hart Teacher Induction Program provides support to new teachers using a structured mentoring support system and an inquiry system developed by the state and approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Induction Candidates are given multiple opportunities to demonstrate advanced application of teaching behaviors linked to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP). They are guided in their work with an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) designed to further teaching practice to increase student achievement. The Induction Candidate creates a portfolio of artifacts that serve to document application of the teaching standards.

The flowchart to the right illustrates the three different tracks to complete the Hart Induction Program. While most candidates will participate in the traditional two-year program, there are circumstances for an Early Completion Option (ECO) and Accelerated Program (AP). Both the ECO and AP tracts require candidates to submit an application, which is then reviewed and approved by the Hart Induction Steering Committee (HISC).
An Induction program sponsor must make available and must advise participants of an Early Completion option for “experienced and exceptional” candidates who meet the program’s established criteria.
