How can we increase the amount of pollinators to have a greater impact on our community?
In second grade, students explore the driving question, "How can we increase the amount of pollinators to have a greater impact on our community?" Integrating various subjects, students engage in visual arts, puppetry, and prop design to create a pollinator puppet show, fostering creativity and artistic expression. Lessons delve into the life cycles of pollinators, incorporating science standards while also incorporating computer science and choreographic designs through the use of bee bots to design a dance about pollinators, promoting interdisciplinary connections. Students actively participate in a pollinator census, collecting data on pollinator populations in the community and use this data to analyze the effectiveness of their planted habitats in increasing pollinator numbers. Additionally, they apply math skills by adding and subtracting the number of pollinators and graphing the results of the census, promoting data analysis and critical thinking skills.
