How do chickens impact our community?
In Kindergarten, students are exploring the driving question, "How do chickens help our community?" Their focus this year has centered on the creation of a chicken coop, integrating various standards and skills across the curriculum. Math concepts were incorporated through the exploration of 3D shapes and their representation in the construction of the coop, as well as reinforcing counting and one-to-one correspondence skills through the collection of chicken eggs. Science standards were addressed through investigations into earth materials suitable for building the coop and the preferences of chickens for egg-laying environments. Additionally, students explored concepts of living and nonliving through caring for the chickens and their environment. Art standards were also incorporated, with a focus on theater, allowing students to engage in creating and performing related to their chicken project.
