4th Grade with Mrs. Bos

Week 28

announcements

We greatly enjoyed welcoming so many grandparents to our classroom last week! This is going to be a fun week as we celebrate Read Across America! Monday-Friday are dress up days, please refer to the graphic below to see what is happening each day!

For our Easter service project, HCS will be collecting money to donate to World Renew. “World Renew partners with local churches and organizations around the world to bring holistic programs that transform communities in every area of need. Our goal is systemic, generational change in five key areas: Peace and Justice, Community Health, Food Security, Economic Opportunity and Disaster Response.” From the About Us section of the World Renew website.

You were emailed a few weeks back about our upcoming field trip on April 9th to the Sugar Pine Railroad. If you are interested in being a parent driver for this trip and have been cleared, please email me and let me know.

Starting in December, we began more regular timed tests on multiplication facts in our math class. If a student does not pass, the grade will be updated as soon as they pass. We are on our last fact family this week! Finishing this program will be a grade in the gradebook!

Spelling Update!

To continue preparing students for 5th grade, we will be changing up our spelling program. We have been doing our 'Get To The Root of It' packets all year. This will not change! The only difference will be that now those root words will be the spelling words. This means that there will only be a spelling test once every two weeks, the same day as the roots definitions test. Miss Merritt and I recently attended a training with KLIP (Kings Literacy Initiative Pact), and have created a set of direct instruction lesson plans to work on decoding and spelling patterns with students. Test dates and spelling/root words will be noted in the 'Spelling' section below. Let me know if you have any questions on this change!

What's happening

*Wear tennis shoes on Monday and Friday for PE (Link to Miss Walker's Website)

*Bring binders to and from school each day

*Read Across America Week is this week (3/4-3/8), and we are excited to celebrate! (See the flyer below for more details)

You will receive an email with the grades your student has received over this week.  Each week, this email will be in your inbox around Sunday Afternoon. Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.  When reading the grades, please keep in mind:

A = Absent

M = Missing

I = Incomplete

Grades will be updated weekly.

HOMEWORK

Math Homework packets are still being sent home. These packets go into the gradebook as a percentage of their math grade and they must turn them in completed each week. Please remind students to be responsible and turn them in!

Students are working through Unit 5 in Math, focusing on measurement and conversions. They will have a test on Tuesday. A review guide was brought home Friday and will be completed in class on Monday to help them study

We are currently working through Unit 11 in our Roots curriculum. The next vocabulary/roots test will be on Friday, March 15th. Here is a helpful link from Quizlet that students can use to study.

*Most work that is not completed in class, as well as studying for tests, will be done as homework. This will be noted in the planner.
