4th Grade with Mrs. Bos

Week 20

announcements

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and restful Christmas Break. I am excited to see your students this week!

The End of Quarter 2 is this week! Please keep a close eye on Incomplete or Missing Assignments in the gradebook, as Friday is the last day to turn these in.

To streamline reporting and accountability, HCS teachers in grades K-4 will be implementing behavior notice emails to keep parents informed. Behavior notices will be emailed when a student chooses to be defiant at school, physically harms another student or teacher, is unkind to others, displays improper behavior, or uses inappropriate language. The notice is not limited to these behaviors, however. The first behavior notice serves to let you know what happened at school and that the classroom teacher addressed it with the student. The second behavior notification will explain what happened at school and that an administrator spoke with the student about their behavior choices. If a 3rd email needs to be sent, a conference will be scheduled with the parents, classroom teacher, and an administrator to address the recurring behavior issues. If your student receives a behavior notification, please do not contact the teacher but discuss it with your student first. If you have questions about this new policy, please reach out to Mrs. Schmidt.

Hanford Christian School’s K-5 students will be participating in the Zaner Bloser Handwriting Contest this year! Over the next few weeks, our class will be intentional in learning correct penmanship and practicing for the contest. All work will be done at school (but practice can happen at home if you’d like), and the top 3 penmanship samples will be blindly chosen from each class by the classroom teacher (6 per grade level). One entry will be submitted from each grade level, and the HCS administrators will blindly chose by January 31. Your student will receive a certificate of participation from Zaner Bloser! Encourage your student to practice and do excellent work to prepare for the contest entries. If you’d like more information, check out the linked webpage above or read the Family Letter from Zaner Bloser.

Starting in December, we began more regular timed tests on multiplication facts in our math class. If a student did not pass, the grade will be updated as soon as they pass. Finishing this program will be a grade in the gradebook!

Please continue to check your student's planner each night to make sure they have completed all work. Any work not finished in class is considered homework. Thank you for your help with this!

What's happening

Since august, our classroom has been participating in a classroom economy system. We are now moving to a website called 'class equity'. Class equity will help students keep track of their classroom 'money'. The students love it and are very excited to jump in!

*Wear tennis shoes on Monday and Friday for PE (Link to Miss Walker's Website)

*Bring binders to and from school each day

*Early Dismissal Wednesday, January 10th at 1:30 PM

*End of Quarter 2, Early Dismissal Friday, January 12th at 11:30 AM

You will receive an email with the grades your student has received over this week.  Each week, this email will be in your inbox around Sunday Afternoon.

 Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.  When reading the grades, please keep in mind:

A = Absent

M = Missing

I = Incomplete

Grades will be updated weekly.

HOMEWORK

Math Fact Fluency packets are still being sent home. These packets go into the gradebook as a percentage of their math grade and it is imperative that they turn them in completed each week. Please remind them to be responsible and turn them in! This will continue into the new year!

We are currently working through Unit 8 in our Roots curriculum. The next vocabulary/roots test will be on Friday, January 19th. Here is a helpful link from Quizlet that students can use to study.

*Most work that is not completed in class will be taken home as homework. This will be noted in the planner.

1 Samuel 15:22

But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
