HCS New Teacher induction is a process designed to support and assist new teachers in developing the knowledge, skills, and competencies they need to be successful in the classroom. It allows new educators and opportunity to participate in comprehensive, sustainable, and ongoing professional development as we build teachers and grow leaders. The goal of teacher induction is to provide a supportive environment for new teachers and counselors, so they can build their confidence and competence, and ultimately improve their effectiveness.
Our program involves a range of activities, such as mentoring, professional development, and networking opportunities. Mentoring pairs new teachers with experienced teachers who provide guidance and support on various aspects of teaching while professional development opportunities may include workshops, conferences, and training sessions. Overall, the aim of our program is to provide new teachers with the resources, support, and professional development they need to succeed in the classroom and positively impact student learning.
First, second, and third-year teachers have the opportunity to learn and grow through our New Teacher Conventions, where you will Convene with INTENTION. Conventions focus on providing strategies and techniques in the areas of classroom management; climate and culture; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and instructional technology that are immediately implementable in the classroom.
Fourth and fifth year teachers participate in our teacher leadership series: Leading From Where You Are. These sessions focus on professional learning, collaboration, communication and leadership
The HCS Induction Plan includes five years of professional development. First, second, and third-year teachers participate in New Teacher Conventions where they Convene with INTENTION as they learn and grow with their colleagues as they develop their teacher identity. A Convention is a full-day conference with four concurrent sessions on classroom management, climate and culture, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

The book shows how to collaborate more effectively with a mentor, and includes a planning section, affirmations, and activities to support classroom management, instruction, assessment, goal setting, and more.
This book presents brain-based principles for avoiding burnout and increasing health and wellness for teachers. Includes self-care and stress management tips and offers suggestions for bringing the practice into in the classroom.
The book walks a teacher, either novice or veteran, through the most effective ways to begin a school year and continue to become an effective teacher. It is the most basic book on how to teach. Every teacher and administrator needs to have a copy. The book is used in thousands of school districts, in over 120 countries, over 2,100 college classrooms, and has been translated into nine languages. It is practical, yet inspiring. But most important, it works!
