The Hamilton School District has created a systematic process so that each and every student in 6th to 12th grade has an Academic and Career Plan (ACP).
Academic and Career Planning (ACP) “is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self- exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills.” (dpi.wi.gov/acp)
There are four stages to successful Academic and Career Planning. This is an ongoing formalized plan and process that involves students set goals based on academic, personal, and career interests. ACP is intended to equip students and their families with the tools necessary to make informed decisions about post secondary career and academic choices with the support of adult mentors that include teachers, counselors, and parents/guardians.
At Hamilton, students Academic and Career Planning takes place during students' Monday advisements through our advisement curriculum. Students access Xello to find out what their interests are, what careers align to those interests, and how to go about pursuing that career after high school. Additionally, our student services team frequently meets with students to discuss their postsecondary plans individually, and in small and large groups.
