My Life in America: Dreams, Opportunities & Challenges by Sahn N. Nguyen
The Facilities Department would like to highlight and celebrate the journey of Sahn Nguyen and how he came to be a member of the Lancaster Campus facilities team. The following is a summary of that journey:
“Living in Vietnam for the first 48 years of my life, I understand how important education is in developing countries. This is why Vietnamese parents, and many others from many corners of the world, wish for good opportunities to migrate to the United States for education, for them and their children. I am one of those parents.
Along with the main goal of getting the best education for their kids, adult immigrants should think about going back to school for themselves. In 2018, I received an associate degree from Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), in Accounting.
My son, Duy Chau Ngoc Nguyen, and daughter, Cung Nghi Chau Nguyen, have had the best education since I moved my family here in 2007. Among the top 16 percent, my son graduated from Temple University in May 2015, and from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 2019. One year later, he became a doctor. My daughter graduated high school in 2020, and is currently a student at Temple University studying pharmacy. She is in her third of seven years.

Welcome to HACC Todd Gilbert and Melissa Flood!
Please welcome Todd Gilbert to an interim position as Harrisburg Campus grounds supervisor. Todd joined HACC’s grounds crew 17 years ago as an arboretum and grounds specialist. Todd currently resides in Susquehanna Township with his wife and three adult children. Todd attended Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport, studying landscape and nursery technology. After graduation, Todd worked in the Harrisburg area doing commercial and residential landscaping along with a few years of golf course management.
Please welcome Melissa Flood to the facilities team as collegewide events coordinator. Melissa brings to HACC a 20-year career in hospitality that has included roles in event sales, marketing management and event planning. She has acquired an expansive knowledge of both the corporate and social event industry. Her enthusiastic approach to planning is to always listen first and then try to provide unparalleled personalized service to her clients, hopefully creating an unforgettable experience. Her personal passions include rescue dogs and wedding planning. Melissa currently resides in Harrisburg with her husband, James, her two sons, Jackson and Carter, and her dog, Bailey.
