Did you know that you can take photos and videos at College events and submit them to HACC’s Flickr page for use in College marketing? You just need to get permission from the attendees, which is easier than you think!
Here is the process:
Print the photo and video notice sign on legal-sized or letter-sized paper.
Post the signs at all entrances to your event, before your event starts. Ensure they are posted in a clean and neat manner. For example, if it needs to be posted on an exterior door, please tape it to the interior of the glass, facing the outside, so wind and/or precipitation do not damage the sign.
Take photos of the signs to prove they were posted prior the start of your event.
Take images and videos at your event!
Share the content with the College!
The League of Women Voters of the Harrisburg Area contributed $1,000 to the HACC Foundation to assist four HACC students with purchasing textbooks for their HACC coursework. The contribution was given in memory of Mary Grace Newsome, a former president of the League, who served the organization for more than 50 years.
We are grateful to the League for their investment in our students and communities!
Email marketing is an effective way to communicate with large groups of people and a key component of many integrated marketing communications plans implemented by the Office of College Advancement. There are many email marketing platforms to choose from. At HACC, we use one called Vertical Response.
To learn more about Vertical Response and how it is used at HACC, please review this new resource available on myHACC.
In August 2022, the Office of College Advancement (OCA) made a small but significant enhancement to help the College better understand how many future students are first-generation students. Understanding this group makes up a significant number of HACC students, we need to collect data to help communicate messages that meet first-generation students’ needs and goals.
According to the Center for First-Generation Student Success, a first-generation college student is defined as an individual whose parents did not complete a four-year college or university degree. OCA added the following information as a required question to the online form that future students complete:
Are you a first-generation college student? (Definition of a first-generation college student: An individual whose parents did not complete a four-year college or university degree.)
To begin the admissions process, a future student must complete this online form to create a HACC account. This is required prior to completing their online HACC application. The information that is collected in this online profile is transferred to the student’s application.
We look forward to using this data to make informed decisions and communicate with these students.
HACC’s donors provided funding to sand, paint and refinish the gym floor in Evans Physical Education Center on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus. The floor is used for the intercollegiate men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball teams, physical education classes, general student recreation and community reservations.
The project of refinishing and repainting the gym floor has positively impacted our students by giving them a basketball court that is up to date with the new College basketball court lines. This will enable our students to compete in intercollegiate competition against other colleges while adhering to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules. The new refinishing also gives the floor tact, which will help students get traction while playing on it, helping to prevent slipping and enabling them to play more sharply. In addition to being functional, the floor looks great! Aesthetically, the students love it. The new color scheme and HACC Hawk in the center of the floor help the court to feel like “home” for our HACC students.
This project has positively transformed HACC by refinishing a court that was in need of repairs, giving it a fresh look and bringing it up to current NJCAA standards. The floor had not been sanded to the bare wood and repainted in over 20 years. There were a few boards that were cracked, and the paint on the floor had yellowed and faded over the years. If the boards had not been repaired, they would have eventually created a tripping hazard for participants.
This project was definitely a success. By refinishing the floor, it is safer for our students, looks sharp and makes the HACC community feel HACC proud. The finished project is definitely more than just aesthetically pleasing - it gives the space a “WOW” factor. The HACC community can feel #HACCproud of this space.

What is your job title?
Professor of Nursing and Director of Nursing Programs at the York Campus.
How long have you worked at HACC?
I have worked at HACC since 2008.
Why do you contribute to the HACC Foundation?
Having been blessed with quality post-secondary education, my husband and I have experienced its power in building a foundation for success. With opportunity comes a responsibility to make that blessing a reality for another person. The HACC Foundation gives our family the ability to be a part of bringing quality education to others.
If you could share a message with a friend or family member to encourage them to contribute to the HACC Foundation, what would you say?
Support the HACC Foundation and be a part of the magic that happens every day in HACC classrooms.
In this “Fast Five” series, we are featuring Rob Swatski.
What is your full name?
Rob Swatski
What is your job title?
Professor of Biology
How long have you worked at HACC?
I was an adjunct instructor from 1996-2007, when I taught biology at the Lancaster, Lebanon and York campuses. I have been teaching full-time at the York Campus since fall 2007.
Why do you contribute to the HACC Foundation?
Like many of our students, I was a first-generation college student and can empathize with the multiple challenges they face. Financial struggles can derail a student's progress, forcing them to take time away from school to make ends meet. Knowing that my contributions to the Foundation make such a positive and impactful difference in their lives encourages me to donate year after year.
If you could share a message with a friend or family member to encourage them to contribute to the HACC Foundation, what would you say?
Please contribute to the HACC Foundation and help our students achieve their dreams!
