Meet Jessica: Hard-Working Mother
Jessica, a student in HACC’s Radiologic Technology Program, works hard inside and outside of the classroom. She is a mother to two young girls and sees her experiences as a college student having a positive impact on her children. Jessica said, “I have noticed they are excited and eager to learn with their schooling because they see their mommy excited and eager to learn.”

Paralegal Studies Student Tutor
The Paralegal Studies program at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, supports students' academic needs and further prepares them for the legal profession. Ioanna Karra, HACC student and Peer Tutor has been tutoring HACC students in PLGL 101, Introduction to Paralegal Studies, and PLGL 105, Contracts, since March 2022. Ioanna is an international student from Greece and a licensed attorney in her home country. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in advanced European business and tax law from the University of Paris Nord, in Sorbonne, France.
When Ioanna first came to the U.S. in the summer of 2021 to start her studies at HACC, she could not have even imagined that this past summer she would be able to study and work as a tutor for HACC through Zoom while being in Greece to visit her family. She is more than grateful for being able to stay connected with her peers and continue with her summer classes and tutoring while being overseas. Undoubtedly, Zoom has been a powerful educational tool amid the pandemic and she is proud that HACC continues to offer its students the opportunity of taking online classes and enjoying online tutoring services during these challenging times.
Ioanna’s favorite thing about being a HACC peer tutor is helping her peers embrace their learning struggles by listening to their feelings and frustrations. She works with each peer to create a productive and innovative approach to help them better understand and simplify the complex legal terms and concepts taught in class.
After graduating from HACC’s paralegal program, Ioanna plans to continue on to law school in the United States and prepare for the bar exam. She is very excited about the exceptional experience she has had with her classes and her professors at HACC. She believes HACC’s paralegal studies program was a fateful choice impacting her future legal career.

HACC Welcomes a New Community Impact Advisory Coalition
As YOUR community college, we enjoy engaging with community leaders in our 11-county service region. This month, community and College stakeholders will meet to brainstorm impactful ways to connect community resources to students. The inaugural Community Impact Advisory Coalition will encourage conversation among leaders who live and work in various regions. For a year, the advisors will provide insights into the enhancement of programming needed by private- and public-sector organizations.
