HACC’s One College, Uniting for Success strategic plan has two Open Educational Resource (OER) objectives that support HACC’s commitment to Retain Students & Foster Completion. With the HACC Foundation’s support, both strategic goals have been achieved and the outcomes for OER have been increased. The first goal’s outcome was 3 faculty-led projects, which increased to 30 faculty-led OER projects by the end of the strategic plan. The second goal was to provide free or low-cost textbook options for 25% of classes, which increased to 45% of classes.
The OER committee recognizes Tamara Girardi and Andrea Hartranft for their vision to build the OER structure at HACC before handing it over to Allyson Valentine and Karen Woodring, the new co-chairs of the OER committee. A survey was conducted of all current credit students to determine modes of delivery, campus, and time preferences for the Spring 2022 term. On Sept. 14, emails with individual links were distributed to 14,190 students who were enrolled at the College. Email reminders were sent on Sept. 17 and Sept. 20 to those who had not submitted a response. A total of 2,809 students completed the survey for a response rate of 19.8%.
This information was reviewed to ensure that students had flexibility in scheduling their classes for spring 2022. The College plans to survey each semester as we monitor the environment for safety. You may view the survey results here.
