Ms. Amanda has been working at the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science, InDigital Program for more than 10 years! Ms. Amanda has been the lead teacher for more than 5 of those years. She absolutely believes in the program, and wants to to be the best it can be.
Mrs. Amanda graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris Campus (Go, Cougars!) with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. After taking two years off, she returned to school to receive her Master of Science in Dairy Nutrition through Utah State University in Logan, Utah ( Aggies All the Way!). Ms. Amanda thought doing one advanced degree wasn't enough to keep her busy, so she added a second bachelor's degree in secondary education at the same time. After graduating, Ms. Amanda moved to Hawaii to help her brother with his housing projects. She fell in love with the culture, and started her teaching career at Na Wai Ola Public Charter School and after five years, she moved to HAAS.
Science is a great passion of Ms. Amanda. She loves to share random science facts, and wants to encourage the love of science for all students. Making science accessible and relatable is Ms. Amanda's great passion. A close second to teaching science, teaching high school health is a huge bright spot in Ms. Amanda's day. Of all the things students learn in high school, the things they learn in health have a great potential to impact their lives in a real and daily way.
When Ms. Amanda is not chasing chickens around the yard, walking her dogs, playing hard at Ingress, or relaxing on the beach, she loves to curl up with a great book.
