The American Alligator lives in swamps and wet lands in the southeastern part of the U.S They live in fresh water areas. They have a dark color and a broad snout. When there mouth is closed, you can't see there bottom row of teeth. They eat fish, insects, birds, and snakes. In the Everglades males can dig holes during the dry season, but in the zoo they can make sure it is never to dry for them to survive.
