Indoor Drumline

About the Drumline

The West Hills High School Indoor Drumline is a competitive drumline comprised of
The Blue and Black Brigade members.
Students who are not percussionists are still encouraged to participate.

We compete in the ADLA (American Drumline Association) Circuit, for formally a part of WGASC. This activity is optional and not for credit. However, if students choose to participate, they must commit to being a part of this group. Our success is based on our learning and performance as a team. Rehearsing with absences is just like driving a car that is missing a wheel- you won't get very far!

The Battery:

  • 2 Snare Drums

  • 2 Tenor Drums

  • 4 Bass Drums (up to)

  • 2 Cymbals

We can take as few as 1 snare, 1 tenor, and 3 basses. Students who are in the battery learn drill. They move and play just like the field season, just on a smaller scale.

The Front Ensemble:

  • Mallets (marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, bells, and chimes)

  • Drum Set

  • Auxiliary Percussion (suspended cymbals, triangle, concert bass drum, wood blocks, etc.)

  • Synthsizers (keyboards)

Students who are in the front ensemble stand at the front and play. Different shows have different needs, and the Front Ensemble part numbers change each year.

All music is memorized and the show is diferent each year!

Drumline Season

Our drumline season begins in early January and continues through April. A schedule will be available on the Calendar Tab in December 2021.

For the 2020 season, rehearsals were every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 3:30-6:00pm. Beginning in February, Tuesdays began to alternate to reduce the burden of rehearsal hours once the music had been learned. We plan to keep a similar (if not the same) schedule for our next season.

Drumline Auditions

For the 2020 season, we did not hold auditions. In the future, if there are more interested students than parts , auditions will be held immediately following Winter Break. Audition materials will be distributed in December.
