The ROS2 Bandwidth-Aware Networking Dynamics and Integration Toolkit (ROS2-BANDIT) optimizes communication for robotic fleets on edge platforms. Communication profiles with active topics are set up and enforced by a bandwidth management component.
This project develops bandwidth management for robot communication in 5G/6G edge platforms, making them more efficient. The user-friendly approach in the implementation opens up opportunities for a wider range of robot manufacturers without specific networking expertise to adapt their products to 5G/6G networks. The solution encourages more manufacturers to participate in the digital transformation, leading to a more diverse range of products and solutions that leverage 5G/6G technologies, enriching the ecosystem and promoting innovation. The reduced bandwidth requirement allows more robots to share the same wireless capacity, enabling novel concepts, like Line-less Mobile Assembly Systems (LMAS), that demand mobile robot fleets with multiple high data rate sensors. By allowing efficient, secure, and adaptive communication, this project empowers robots to integrate into our world, benefiting everyone involved seamlessly.
