Take a look at all the artistic talent abound at Macdonald School
We said goodbye to Mrs. Bogard this month! Thanks for all you did with the kiddo's during your time with us!
We are so happy to Welcome Ms. S back! The school is alive with student visual art. Take a look at below!
Art in Macdonald School!
Kindergarten
Kindergarten has been working on patterns, making music instruments as well as refining our fine motor work!
Using cutting, drawing and pinch grip we are building our skills!
We brought sunshine and rainbows to our hallway art board, by drawing and being inspired by others' art!
Grade 1-2
We have been diving into the world of Zentangle! Very simple shapes and movements with a fine pen or pencil has created some amazing art! We have moved from our mindful coloring to our doodle books for our first 5 minutes of class and the kids have created beautiful cartoons and creations!
Grade 3-4
We have been working on refining our cartooning skills!
We have worked on some basics: background, eyes, hands, body positions, and hair! We will continue to work on the basics and then create our story line so that we can create our own series!
Grade 5-6
We are also working on Zentangle, this has been a very creative process and they have imagined different ways they can Zentangle different items and ideas. We have created an art board in their room and we are adding to it constantly!
Grade 7/ 8/ 9
We have just finished working on our ‘Art as Activism’ which asks students to consider their world and decide what social issue they believe is important, they got to do some research on their topic and then create an art project based off of the social issue that is important to them. They created some beautiful art pieces, from paintings, to posters to poems, they really expressed their creativity and their truths.
I am really proud of all the art projects happening at Macdonald School!
February is my last full month with the School and then Mrs. S is back March 14th! Yay! We will be thrilled for her return!

The last part of November and beginning of December had been dedicated to working on Readers Theatre plays for the Christmas season!
Grade 5/6 , Grade 7 as well as the 8/9 class has been working on the plays they hope to perform and send home to parents!
1/2 and 3/4 have been working on creating their own comic books! They have had so much fun with this project!
Kindergarten has been working on some painting projects as well as some singing of seasonal songs!
Lead up to Christmas will be full of some Christmas art guided drawing as well as singing, mixed in with our regular art projects! It’s been a fun month!
I would like to thank and congratulate all of our cross country runners who worked so hard all of September! These committed team members spent their noon hours every second day practicing for either a 2km or 3km run. I am so proud of their commitment and dedication!
On September 24th, five runners went to Saltcoats to participate in the 37th annual Autumn Summit. These participants were: Jordan Earnshaw, Ashlynn Vanpoucke, Luxton Johanson, Abigail Korolek and Kayle Schelechter. All runners beat their personal best time on this day and three of our runners will advance to Districts on October 1st. These runners were Abigail Korolek who placed first, Kayle Schechter who placed 9th and Ashlynn Vanpoucke who placed 8th. Good luck to these runners at Districts on October 1st at Deer Park!
I also want to send out a special shout out to our runners under Grade 5 who still came out to practice during noon hour practices even though they were not yet old enough to participate in the Autumn Summit event. You are all rockstars!

Arts Ed Sept 2021
In Art this term we are working on Dance. Moving to music, choreography, following the moves, and creating our own moves. Kindergarten is working on creating and following patterns, investigating movement and expressing ourselves through dance.
In grade 1 and 2 we are working on creating short dance patterns on our own as well as following a pattern created by someone else. We are connecting this idea to community and cultural background as well.
Grade 3/4 we are following the choreography as well as connecting it to culture and will be soon moving into creating our own dance moves to express an idea or feeling.
In Grade 5/6 they are creating their own dance inspired by pop culture, we have had some tik tok challenges, expressing their own individuality and connecting it to new dance trends.
Grade 7 we have been trying out some dance trends creating our own unique dance to a song we connect to.
Grade 8/ 9 has been exploring the cultural connection between social issues and expressions within dance, Creating choreography in small groups.
It has been fun for the kids to see that dance can be more than just a cool move to a beat, sometimes it can express an idea or a story. Dance can be hard or uncomfortable for kids to engage in but we are creating a very fun and encouraging environment for the kids to express themselves in. I am really proud of the progress they have made and the conversations we have had in class.
