What have we been up to?
December 2022
December was filled with so much fun and excitement in Kindergarten! Students engaged in many different fine motor and learning opportunities through play in their Sants's workshop invitations. Excitement and noise filled the hallways when the Kinder's freshly baked gingerbread men escaped from the oven and led us on a chase around the school! Even Constable Herring popped in to help with the search!
In November, students had fun working on listening to many different fairy tales and then retelling them through a puppet show within our Movie Theatre invitation. They became "movie theatre workers" by selling popcorn, candy and drinks, movie tickets and more! We also learned a lot about the difference between a small problem and a big problem and ways we might solve our small problems on our own using Kelso's choice wheel.
October was a fun month in Kindergarten! Routines have been well established and lots of learning is happening! This month students particularly enjoyed the Medical Center invitation. Through play they worked on printing their name to sign into the clinic, counted pills at the pharmacy, used imagination and social skills to look after their patients and much more! Halloween invitations and activities of course were also a hit.
The Kindergarten Class of 2022 has begun. We have 13 students that we have welcomed to our school. The students had a staggered entrance and are now attending on Days 1,3,5. We are looking forward to a wonderful year!
The Kindergarten class has had such an exciting month!! The highlights of our month were hatching baby chicks, watching the life cycle of a butterfly and our Mother’s Day Spa!
This last month in Kindergarten was highlighted with many fun Easter invitations! We also worked hard on beginning and last sounds of words, number partitioning and working on beginning addition skills as well as are just beginning to write words and simple patterned sentences!
The month of March was highlighted with building traps to catch the St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun! He left a mess in our classroom along with a full day’s worth of mystery activities that we had to solve in order to get clues to find him.
Highlights last month included our Family Engagement Day sleigh ride and sledding as well as Camp Rice!
January was a “cold” and busy month. We spent time in Kindergarten learning all about magnets, patterns and enjoyed some new learning invitations.
Lots of fun was had in Kindergarten in December! Christmas learning invitations, an amazing gingerbread person chase, fun on the toboggan hill, door decorating, letter writing and a quick field trip to the post office to see what happens to our letters and more!
At the end of December our class said good-bye to Ms. Ashlyn Helmeczi. We were so grateful for our time with her and wish her all the best in her last 4 months of University to complete her Education degree.
Some highlights this month in Kindergarten were the exciting new movie theatre invitations that Ms. Helmeczi created, reading a variety of tales, learning about and making talking sticks, and many engaging math activities that the students thoroughly enjoyed!
Kindergarten has been busy during November! The weather has allowed for a lot of outdoor learning!
Welcome to Macdonald School to our new Kindergarten students and families! The Kinder room has been a busy place the last couple of weeks establishing routines and procedures and getting to know each other!
May was an exciting month in Kindergarten! Watching the baby chicks hatch and then taking care of them and watching them grow was so exciting! The end of May also meant garden planting time! We are looking forward to watching our garden vegetables and flowers grow!
This past month the highlight in Kindergarten was learning about the life cycle of a chicken by hatching baby chicks! The kids were involved from the beginning; setting up the incubator, incubating and candling the eggs in order to see the chicks growing inside, to setting up the brooder. We look forward to watching the hatch on May 3rd and May 4th as well as taking care of the baby chicks for a few weeks until they are ready to head to a farm.
Some March highlights in Kindergarten were building lots of different structures from many different materials in our materials and objects unit in Science as well as St. Patrick’s Day of course! That tricky leprechaun kept us all so busy solving investigations to receive clues that day that we forgot to take pictures! In the end, we didn’t end up catching the tricky leprechaun but everyone had a fun day and was happy to receive the treats he left at the end of the day!
Our highlights in the month of February were Camp Rice, Valentine’s Day and our Family Engagement Day!
