What have we been up to?
By: Kendelle-Lynne Toth, Trezden Isaac and Ashlynn Vanpoucke
Our students all had their plates full for this month of March. Not only do our students work extremely hard in the classroom, but they also work their butts off on the sports courts and the stage! Our students are so fortunate to have all these opportunities to be able to show off their skills and are proud to be able to represent our school!
This month our drama team has worked harder than ever on making sure our one night dessert theatre will be a perfect night for our audience on April 4. We are selling tickets for ten dollars each and are available from cast, crew and all directors! Congratulations to all the of our actors who are brave enough to stand up in front of a live audience and deliver an amazing show!
This month is the beginning of the badminton season. We are only at the start of the season but we are working hard to get ready to go to conferences. We would like to congratulate our players for the hard work they are putting in.
Our Basketball season has come to an end and our team spent a lunch time having a pizza party and an end of season photoshoot. We would like to congratulate our girls for the amazing season and we hope to see more people join the team next year!
This month marks the end of hockey academy season. Our players worked hard this season, spending every day 5 afternoon practicing at our local skating rink. At the end of March, our players challenged our local EMT's and local police officers to a game of floor hockey in our gymnasium. The ending score was 10-9. Congratulations players on the win!
February
By:Trezden Isaac, Kendelle-Lynne Toth & Ashlynn Vanpoucke
Hello everyone! The month of February was a fun month for the Grade 8's. On February 8th, grades 5-8 loaded onto a bus and headed straight for Asessippi. They spent the rest of the day skiing, tubing, snowboarding and soaking up the afternoon sun.
In science, grade 8's gloved up and dissected sheep eyes for their science labs. We learned all about the different parts of the sheep's eye and the different functions. We also compared the sheep's eye to our own eyes.
In art class, students have been learning about tints and shades. Here are some pictures of their latest paintings!
January 2023
By: Ashlynn Vanpoucke & Kendelle-Lynne Toth
We have had a great start to the new year in the grade 8 classroom.
In January, we focused on giving a helping hand to our younger students. Now that all the covid restrictions are over, it's safe to return to how it was before: helping out and spending as much time as possible with our younger peers.
We did a lot of activities with younger grades, such as skating with K-4’s, curling with the 5-7’s, buddy reading with the 3-4’s and helping the 3-4’s write out their recipes for the school cookbook.
The grade 8’s all really enjoyed giving a helping hand and we hope to help out more in February!

In Grade 8 art class, students have been working extremely hard at their self portraits and learning all kinds of different techniques to make these beautiful masterpieces!
Grade 8’s have been learning about the World Cup in social class with Ms. Sapieha. There's been some buzz about The World Cup around the classroom about all the teams. Although Canada has unfortunately lost, we continue to keep our hopes up for other teams!
In Grade 8’s ELA, we have just finished reading the book Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. Students enjoyed reading this book and completing the assignments that were assigned as we read the book. We definitely recommend this book to anyone at this reading level!
October 2022
In ELA this month, Grade 8s have been studying the youth version of Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, written by Trevor Noah. A general history of apartheid in South Africa helped improve their context for the novel before we began reading. Students have also been practicing text analysis skills, close reading, and writing from different perspectives. Our focus in Math has been on Square Numbers, Square Roots and their applications. Science class has centred on the study of cells and tissues; unicellular and multicellular organisms, and the process of osmosis.
October brought many other highlights including the AgMazing Race with Crop for Community, development of our self portraits in art, a pep rally for our volleyball athletes and a fun-filled afternoon of halloween spirit before students headed out for trick or treating on the 31st. November, here we come!

April Recap!
March Recap!
February Recap!
It's already March! There isn't much to recap because February is super short, especially with the break! In the few weeks before the break we went skating twice, once was at the end of January and we went for the last hour of the day on Friday before the break! We also got our rainbow trout fish from the FinS program in February! We did this last year and only made it out with 8/100 fish, so this year we hope for a few more! Other than that we haven't really had anything super exciting happen. This week we are going curling and skiing in Esterhazy which we are all super excited about!
January Recap!
December Recap!
Happy New Year everyone! Even though we only had a few weeks of school in December, we made the best of it! We had our 12 days of Christmas which were super fun! We did lots of fun things like Mad About Plaid day, Red and Green Day, Hugge Day, and on the last day of school before the break, we had TJ’s and PJ’s and most classes had some Christmas-y fun!
Reader's Theatre plays were a great time!
November Recap!
Hey Macdonald school! It’s me again, time to recap November! It’s crazy to think that it’s already almost December, which means Christmas break is coming!! That’s something we have to look forward to, but let’s see what already happened this November in the grade 8/9 class.
At the start of the month, we started learning about Remembrance Day, like most other classes. We even got to see some cool pictures from when Mrs. Hovind visited Flanders Fields. Only a few students decided to make posters to remember. Our whole class made postcards to veterans, and/or active service members. On November 10th we had our annual school Remembrance Day service and we didn't have school on Remembrance Day or the 12th.
Other than that, we got our report cards and we have SLC’s coming up. (This was written before them) Have a great December everyone!

Hey Macdonald School families!
I'm here to tell you what happened in the grade 8/9 classroom this October! There definitely wasn't as much going on in October than in September, but it was still a great month! First off there was thanksgiving so we didn't have school for 2 days. And really the only other thing that happened was education week from the 18-22. We participated in lots of activities and presentations. We even went on a zoom call with Dr. Jane Goodall. Finally on October 29, we had our school halloween. There were some pretty awesome costumes! Happy Halloween everyone!!
Hey Macdonald School! This first month of the 2021-22 school year in the grade 8/9 classroom has been great! We have had lots of fun events this month, like the Crop for Community event, picture day, student vote, the Terry Fox run, and Orange Shirt Day.
For the Crop for Community event there were 6 stations that included learning about the functions of a combine, one showing the different types of soil, one that was about budgeting, one where we had to run around an acre to see the size, there was one that taught us about wheat, and one that was teaching about nutrients.
Picture day was as great as always, everyone brought their best smiles! Huge thanks to Rae Dobko for taking everyones school pictures! They will all look amazing!
This year there was a federal election so as always we did student vote! Some of the grade 8/9 students ran the voting stations. Thanks Taiya, Kaytlyn, Hailey, Andra, and Lydia! All students from grades 3-9 voted and our school voted in Cathay Wagantall (Conservative) of the Yorkton-Melville riding.
The Terry Fox run was on September 29 this year and we did our usual route around Stockholm! Grades K-6 went at 10:30 and the 7-9s went at 1:15!
Orange shirt day! I have seen lots of orange shirts, to honour the Indigenous peoples of Canadian history. The grade 7/8/9s got to listen to a presentation from Clorice Delorme, an Indigenous woman who is a survivor of residential schools. She shared her story with lots of students from the Good Spirit School Division.
This year with the federal election the grade 8,9's worked the student election where grade 3-9 voted Kaytlyn, Taiya, Hailey, Lydia, Andra, Easton, Rylund, and Hudson for working the student election.
In May, students took too the streets to clean up the town!
We had great weather to learn outside!

A couple of the grade 7/8/9 students wrote to Mrs. Johanson at the beginning of the year. They wrote about how we should be able to wear hats in school. They talked to Mrs.Johanson and they came up with a few rules for grades 5-9 . They have the rules hung up around the 5-9 classes and they are going on a trial run for 4 months. After that, Mrs. Johanson will survey students and staff about how the trial went, and hope that they will get to implement the rule full time.
