We continue our review of letters and letter sounds with the UFLI program. In October we covered these letters. We are starting to use letter mats to spell words and to create our own sentences.
We are working hard on CVC ( consonant vowel consonant words). and really listeninig for the vowel in the middle. (Sorry for no faces!)
For the last week of October we enjoyed two book studies, Room on the Broom and Big Pumpkin. The students talked about the beginning, middle and end of the story, as well as the characters and the plot.
In science we kicked off our unit on Matter by investigating a pumpkin. We talked about the properties of pumpkins, what they look like, feel like, what colour they are, etc. We also measured the pumpkin's width, height and weight. In the matter unit, we learn that objects have different properties we can use to describe them. We also learn that some objects, like play doh, can change their property, but remain the same object.
