Please ensure that you pack a healthy snack for the morning (I give them quite a bit of time for snack time - they can usually eat 2 small things), as well as a lunch. Keep in mind there is no access to microwaves.
I will inform parents if there are any severe allergies in the classroom once I am aware. Some students in our school have nut allergies. I will encourage good hand washing habits before and after eating times.
Please ensure your child brings a labelled water bottle to school each day. This minimizes trips to the water fountain.
Students will be visiting Ms. Rachel in the library once a week on Fridays. They will be able to bring two books home at this time, to be returned the next week.
Schoolwork
If something is sent home unfinished, you are free to finish it at home and are NOT required to send it back. Anything I send home (unless otherwise stated) is meant to be kept at home and students were given adequate time in class to finish the assignment.
Research supports that children should be reading on a DAILY basis. The benefits of reading continues for years to come. I would suggest reading with your child for at least 10 minutes per day. They can read alone (look at pictures, look for specific letters, make up stories, etc.), or have a book read to them from a parent/family member.
The understanding of our weekly words builds speed and fluency when reading. Accuracy, speed, and fluency in reading increases reading comprehension. Our weekly words are a collection of words that a child learns to help build their decoding skills. The weekly words are frequently used words that a child can use to build vocabulary.
This year our weekly words are connected to our weekly phonics skill. Each week we will send home five new words for your child to practice at home with fun ideas included for practicing the words. These words should be practiced throughout the year
