Last week, the students completed a research project on the Arctic fox. Each student was given a page of informational text to guide their research, and together we read through the material and highlighted the most important details about the fox’s habitat, diet, appearance, life cycle, adaptations, and other interesting facts. Students then recorded jot notes from the text to organize the key information they learned. They also used QR codes to watch videos about the Arctic fox, which helped them add even more interesting facts to their research. Throughout the project, we focused on reading comprehension, analyzing informational texts, and building technical vocabulary. Finally, students used their jot notes to write an informational paragraph in Google Classroom explaining what they had learned about the Arctic fox.
This week, we explored limericks, a humorous type of poem with a strong rhythm that originated in Ireland. After learning about the specific pattern and reading several examples, the students created their own limericks. They focused on the syllable pattern and rhyming structure while adding their own creative and often silly twists. The students had a lot of fun playing with words and bringing their imaginative ideas to life through poetry. ✏️
