Thesis Proposal Exam

Each student is required to write a Ph.D. thesis proposal, and present and defend the proposal orally before a committee.

l Requirements:

1)、 Their status is a Ph.D. candidate.

2)、 The topic is relevant to their thesis.

• Timing

Students must apply the thesis proposal exam by the end of the third year.

• Thesis Proposal Committee

The supervisor will select professors to serve on the Ph.D. thesis proposal committee according to the following regulations:

1)、 The committee must consist of at least three professors, including the supervisor.

2)、 Each of the professors must hold a graduate faculty appointment at the NCKU.

3)、 The academic consultant committee might add 1 or 2 members based on the thesis topic.

4)、 The committee members would only be invited after the approval by the academic consultant committee

• Process

1)、 The supervisor will schedule the exam. All members of the Ph.D. thesis proposal committee must attend the exam.

2)、 Student has to submit application one month before Ph.D. thesis proposal exam.

3)、 The written proposal must be submitted to all committee members and the administrative office at least one week prior to the exam.

4)、 The student will make a presentation at the meeting and orally defend the Ph.D. thesis proposal.

5)、 If the committee does not consider the proposal to be satisfactory, the student must present and defend a new Ph.D. thesis proposal within a given time frame.

• Evaluation

thesis proposal committee will evaluate your progress and makes the decision to either

(1)Approve your continued enrolment

(2)Approve your continued enrolment under certain conditions (e.g., meeting certain milestones by certain dates)

(3)Discontinue your candidature

The evaluation form must be returned to the administration office immediately after the exam.
