The purpose of the recreation is to guide the seniors to share their life stories by interpreting the images. So through two-day workshops, field trips, interactions with the elderly, and the concept of the Vita Card, we combined Thomson's old photographs with the elements we collected. In addition, in order to give meaning and depth to the recreated photos, we have tried to present the questions in a more open-ended way. Thus, for example, the excavator represents a significant change in life; boating in a punt represents the marriage relationship; the farming scene represents the first pot of gold in life; and so on. Then we can explore and understand the life experiences of the elderly in a more resonant way.

“Sincere companionship is the way we treat the elders, and precious life experiences are the gifts from the elders. ”
We warmed up and revitalized the atmosphere through ice-breaking games so that the elderly can feel relaxed. That made them more willing to confide in and share their life experiences with us. After the process, we extracted some elements from the stories shared by the elderly.
We use the reconstructed Vita cards created by ourselves to interact with the elderly. We found that the seniors are more resonated with the theme of daily life and relationship, like the natural environment, local features, relatives, and family members through the whole progress. Even though some seniors are not very healthy, she smiled and talked happily when mentioned to her grandson.

“Creativity is the driving force of narrative, thinking is the foundation of narrative.”
Before going to the community to visit, we had a one-day workshop, and some lectures helped us design the vita card content and recreation based on the history of John Thomson's photographs. We tried to use some nostalgic or life elements to resonate with the elderly, such as the old-style cinema, plants, pets, hiking, etc. During the design thinking process, we found that the most challenging thing is raising open-ended questions to guide the seniors to share their stories as much as possible.
