Hooray Sunshine, we were so ready to get back outside! We spent a lot of time outside in March and April. Gardening, talking walks, playing new games, and just enjoying the warmer weather. We also did a lot of creative art and messy science projects. The end of the school year always brings a lot exciting events, we are looking forward to our Talent Show and having the aquarium and Science Center visit.
March started out with celebrating Dr. Seuss. The students made puppets of Thing 1 and Thing 2 and created a puppet theater to put on productions for the staff. A lot of teamwork was involved and they had great discussions on how to decorate the theater. Next we moved on to Leprechaun traps, using cups, tin foil, gold coins an a bunch of imagination. We were really hoping tp catch one this year, but no luck. Morning Wolverine has a lot of Artists, our coloring/ craft table is always filled with students creating works of art. April crafts included a frog and butterfly puppet , a dragon, birds in a nest, and a beautiful butterfly wreath. We made chicks and eggs and a bunny eating a carrot. To celebrate Earth Day we made globes. The students have also had a lot of fun working on new puzzles. We were able to get outside on the warm days to run around, make new friends and just be silly. The kids love playing in the Ga Ga ball pit and are learning about rules, taking turns and how to show good sportsmanship. We are so glad to finally be able to back outside in the sunshine!
During March Wolverines Forward Pre-k was focused on Dr. Seuss and building. Students worked with teachers one on one to help build a new play tool bench for our classroom. They have enjoyed playing with the tool bench, discovering what all the play tools are used for. We have been reading Dr. Seuss books and doing a lot of Dr. Seuss crafts. We even changed our dramatic play to a cafe that sells green eggs and ham, with truffula trees and fishing for red and blue fish. The letters we focused on this month were W,U and X. Students practiced rhyming words to go with the Dr. Seuss theme at circle time.
In April, we focused on spring weather, including bugs and dirt. Students made caterpillars, butterflies, and other bug themed crafts. They played in dirt themed sensory bins, and even painted pots to plant seeds in. We celebrated earth day by going on a spring scavenger hunt searching for signs of spring. Our alphabet focus this month were the letters Y and Z. The students practiced tracing and writing these letters in dirt, slime, and on white boards.
Our kindergarten program embraced the exciting theme of STEM Explorers during March. The focus was on "Ooey, Gooey, Sticky Science Experiments," which provided our young learners with engaging and hands-on activities to foster their love for science. They were thrilled to witness the magic of things that glow, enjoyed the fun of creating bubbles, and even learned the art of making lava lamps. Our little scientists indulged in some messy, yet enjoyable projects such as slime-making and gardening.
Our Kindergarteners had an exciting April as they transformed into World Explorers during our European-themed unit. We crafted paper suitcases and passports. Our travels included visits to several remarkable countries, such as Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Ireland. Each destination provided a unique opportunity to learn about key aspects of European life. The children explored European currency, traditional foods, national flags, capitals, and iconic architecture.
This unit was designed to foster curiosity and a love for learning about the world beyond our own, enriching our students' understanding of different cultures.
During March First Graders explored the ocean! Wolverines were asked about things they wanted to learn about the ocean, what they already knew, and what they would like to create. We started off talking about pollution and the importance of keeping our ocean clean. Then we moved into the different ocean layers as well as what specific animals reside there. And then we were able to make some amazing creatures that first graders were able to suggest themselves! Some of these included; jellyfish, octopuses, fish, crabs, sea turtles, and many more!
For the month of April, First Graders brought out their creative sides to make art all about spring, gardens, and flowers! Together we explored various mediums of art to properly welcome the new season of bloom and growth. We painted flowers, made fairy houses, as well as design our own butterflies! Through our various creative activities, we learned more about expressing ourselves through our art while having fun doing so!
During the month of March, our second grade class became Art Explorers. We learned about some famous artists and their artistic styles. We recreated Paul Klee’s famous “Cat and Bird” and Claude Monet’s famous “Monet’s Bridge”. We learned what George Seurat’s “Pointillism” technique was and used it to paint some beautiful pictures! We also learned about Wassily Kandinsky’s Geometric Shapes Art and recreated his “Circles in a Circle”. We also celebrated St. Patrick’s day by making leprechaun traps. Our Community Service project this month focused on thanking teachers and giving them a flower bouquet made by tracing our hands and creating lilies.
During April, we became Health Explorers. We challenged ourselves both physically and mentally. We learned various “brain gym” activities and coordination games. We painted team forts and had a “snowball challenge” We played crab soccer with beach balls, basketball, Robin Hood, a color hunt game and a cup stacking challenge. We had an outdoor Spring scavenger hunt and made some interesting discoveries. We had a lot of fun this month!
We had a ton of heart pumping fun during the month of March with 3rd and 4th grade! The students participated in fitness/Health explorers. Leaning about physical fitness by exploring different options of exercising such as Yoga, fitness circuits, and sports. The students also discussed healthy snacks and eating habits. Next up we had Nature Explorers. The students studied and researched pollination and how important pollinators are to farmers and the world. 3rd and 4th then started their very own little garden, check it out during parent pickup. They are very excited and have been documenting the growth of their vegetables, water consumption and day light hours in their own journals, leaving them excited to see their plants grow.
