We are so excited to get started with another fun filled school year! Checkout some of last years hi-lights by viewing previous newsletters.
In September we were so excited to welcome back alot of familiar smiles and lots of younger siblings . The children got to try out our new web climber on the playground. For back to school crafts we made lots of different crafts, including puppets. We also got to play with some of our new board games, Knex, and ciruits!
This month our WFPK friends dove into learning with songs, stories, and hands on activities that made learning fun and creative! We strengthen early literacy skills through singing and creating playdough faces to explore emotions, while fine motor skills grew through sorting and sensory play. A special focus was on name recognition with children tracing, painting, and engaging in playful activities that made learning their names exciting and impactful. September was a wonderful start to the school year, filled with creativity, confidence, and connection!
This month, our kindergarteners explored health and nutrition. They learned about the main food groups through hands-on activities. The kids practiced sorting play food into their correct food groups, helping them understand eating in a fun and engaging way. We incorporated plenty of movement activities to go along with the fitness portion of this month. The children participated in plenty of fun games including duck, duck, goose, right light, green light and tag. They also participated in activities such as yoga, hula hooping, jump roping and walks to help our students build a foundation for healthy choices while having fun together.
For the month of September, 1st graders used their creative sides to make various crafts and art projects easing them into the new school year! Together we made many apple crafts, including making our own apple stamps for painting, paper mache apples, and apple hats! Along with the apple theme, 1st graders did various crafts all about getting to know them and each other! While getting familiar with coming back to school, we also worked on social emotional learning focused activities, which helped our group learn to be more comfortable with one another!
The Second grade class started September by exploring some of our National Parks. We started off with Yellowstone and learned about Geysers and did our own Geyser experiment. We also explored the Everglades National Park where we learned the differences between alligators and crocodiles. We also watched a video from this park and saw a baby alligator actually hatching!
We explored Hawaii Volcano National Park and learned about volcanoes. We painted our own volcano with fizzing lava. We created a travel brochure and souvenir t-shirts of our favorite national park in hopes of visiting it some day!
In 3rd grade, we had a lot of fun getting to know each other for the first few weeks doing some team building activities! For our enrichment, we focused on stimulating our minds with LEGO creations as part of STEM explorers. Through different challenges, students were able to work in teams or by themselves to make some awesome creations including bridges, ziplines, catapults, spinning tops, marble runs, and more! On other days, students put on their creativity hats to create LEGO fall scenes, nature scenes, houses, and anything else they put their minds to!
Nature’s Explorers was the theme for our 4th grade enrichment activities this month. We focused on hikes and other end-of-summer adventures, taking advantage of the beautiful weather with a mix of outdoor exploration and creative arts and crafts.
Students enjoyed several hikes around the school campus—some just for fun, and others with specific goals in mind. Along the way, we gathered natural materials to use in our projects and completed a couple of exciting scavenger hunts.
For crafts, we created nature collages from the items we collected outside, designed animal masks, and even invented our own creatures—some inspired by real animals and others imagined.
As we wrap up the month, we’re excited to transition into our next theme, Discovering Motion, where we’ll explore the forces of wind, motors, and solar energy.
