Over the last couple of months, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive a grant that allowed us to participate in some amazing field trips during our full day programs! In October we explored the zoo, and in November we headed to the CT Science Center. On February 13th, the Science Center will bring the excitement to us! Then, on March 6th, we’ll journey to the Dr. Seuss Museum, and on May 22nd, we’ll take a trip to the Mystic Seaport. We’re thrilled to bring these wonderful partnerships into both our full and half-day programs! If you have not signed up for these upcoming full and half days yet, please do so in Brightwheel under sign-ups.
And now… we’ve officially made it to the holiday season! At Wolverines, we’ll be celebrating with our families at our annual Cookie Night on December 5th. Join us for cookie decorating, crafts, cocoa, and a special performance from our partnership with ECPAA.
If you haven’t signed up yet, click here—we’d love to see you there!

All of our groups will be diving into all things holiday! Students will explore STEM projects with festive twists, get creative with holiday-themed art and crafts, play cheerful seasonal games, and learn about different holiday traditions from around the world.
November was a month full of creativity and gratitude! We crafted everything from spooky haunted houses to adorable apple people, pilgrims, turkeys, and even snowy owls. During Lego time, we chatted about what we’re thankful for, and our students had the sweetest answers—books, pets, friends, family, a bunny, and of course… Mom!
We also shared our favorite Thanksgiving foods. The top picks? Pumpkin pie, turkey, cornbread, mac and cheese, and Naomi’s unique choice—Chinese food!
To top it all off, the students enjoyed exploring some brand-new toys generously donated to our program. It’s been a busy, joyful month, and we can’t wait for all the fun December will bring!
November was an exciting month at WFPK! We learned about germs and healthy habits through science experiments and discussions, practiced early literacy with our letters of the week (P, D, M and C), and enjoyed hands-on learning through dramatic play, sensory exploration, and seasonal crafts, including thankful turkeys. Highlights included transforming our dramatic play area into a doctor’s office, listening to a virtual read-aloud from Lucille Colandro, and lots of hands-on crafts! We are so proud of the creativity, kindness, and growth we’ve seen from our students this month and look forward to another great month ahead!
This month in kindergarten we dove into stem exploration! Students built creatively with LEGOs and took part in hands-on experiments like Skittles-in-water and homemade lava lamps. They practiced making predictions and then recorded their discoveries through drawings. We also explored density by creating colorful rainbow density towers. It was an exciting month of experimenting, observing, and learning through play!
For the month of November, first graders focused on all things pumpkins, fall harvests & gardening, while engaging with the nature around us. Together we gathered materials such as leaves, sticks, rocks and pine cones to make various crafts. Some of our crafts this month included clay squirrels with pine cones, leaf foxes, beaded corn, and fall bean mosaics. These crafts helped teach us more about the environment and what natural resources we have around us! In addition to our outdoor crafts, we also collected pumpkin seeds and learned all about how pumpkins grow!
This month, second grade dove into our Health and Fitness unit! We learned how to spot the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods, created our own healthy menus, and talked about how the choices we make help our bodies stay strong. We also stretched, balanced, and breathed our way through some kid-friendly yoga, and tried out new fitness games that kept everyone moving. To top it off, we sharpened our minds with some tricky (but exciting!) brain-teaser puzzles.
This month, our 3rd graders had a fantastic time diving into music, instruments, and dance as part of Art Explorers! We kicked things off by sharing our favorite songs and singers, then students designed creative cover art for their very own “songs.” Throughout the month, we made homemade harmonicas and noise makers, played rhythm games, explored new instruments, and enjoyed musical activities like “Draw What You Hear” and a musical twist on “Go Fish.” We wrapped up the month with an energy-filled dance party featuring a playlist of the students’ favorite songs. It was a joyful month of creativity, movement, and musical fun!
This month our 4th graders celebrated Native American Heritage through a series of fun, hands-on activities. Students explored traditional art and storytelling by creating their own clay bowls and designing talking sticks that reflected personal meaning. They also built mini drums while learning how music and rhythm are woven into many Native cultures. To help bring history to life, students played traditional Native American games that encouraged teamwork, coordination, and creativity. We enjoyed celebrating the rich traditions and contributions of Native American communities.
