GREENVILLE COUNTY SCHOOLS PROGRAMS


Twilight School


The Twilight School program is designed for students who have failed a class or need credits to graduate with their class. Students must be at least 15 years old, have an acceptable discipline record, and be currently attending their home-based school or a career center for at least half a day each school day. Classes begin each year in August and January, and meet at Hillcrest High School, Harley Bonds Career Center, Greenville High Academy, and Berea High School from 5:15PM - 8:30PM.  The program offers, smaller class size, individualized instruction & block schedule format. Two Units can be earned per semester (4 per year). The program is free to students, however, students must provide their own transportation. GCVSP


The GCVSP program consists of academic courses that students take online via the internet to earn credits toward a South Carolina high school diploma. Only students who are enrolled in a regular high school are eligible to apply.  All classes are taught by experienced teachers who are certified in their respective subject areas. Courses taken during Fall and Spring semesters are free, however, Summer semester classes do have a fee. Students are responsible for logging on to read class material, complete assignments, and to take quizzes. Classes are semester-length and most award one unit of credit. Each semester has a published start and end date, and classes are not self-paced. GCVSP is a program of Greenville County Schools and does not award high school diplomas. Virtual SC (VirtualSC)


VirtualSC partners with public, private, and home schools to provide free, individualized online learning solutions for students on the path to high school graduation.  VSC serves students in grades 7-12 and those in adult education programs who wish to take courses for high school credit without a seat-time requirement.  Rigorous online courses for initial credit or credit recovery are taught by highly-qualified South Carolina certified teachers.  For more information about VSC speak with your guidance counselor or visit the VirtualSC homepage at www.virtualSC.org


Pregnant & Parenting Students (PPS)


Pregnant and parenting students attending their home-based or choice schools will have access to a full range of available course offerings as well as a greater array of support services. Social Workers assist these students to assess their individual needs and connect them with school district and community resources and services. Periodic seminars and programs will be offered to provide information on topics such as parenting, child care, budgeting, health, safety and services that are available to pregnant and parenting students and their children. Medical Homebound Instruction


Students who cannot attend public school because of an acute or chronic medical condition may be eligible for medical homebound instruction. To recommend a student for medical homebound instruction, a physician must first certify that the student is unable to attend school but may benefit from instruction given in the home. Instruction is conducted by a certified teacher approved by the district. Any student participating in medical homebound instruction must first be approved by the district designee. Home Schooling


Parents may home school through the school district by completing an application and providing a copy of their high school diploma or GED to the Home School Office. The instructional day must be at least four and one-half hours, and the instruction year is at least one hundred eighty days. South Carolina Connections Academy (SCCA)   K-12

Adult Education Options (GED and High School Diploma)


Lifelong Learning Adult Education    -DIPLOMA and GED  -  206 Wilkins Street, Greenville 29605


Lifelong Learning is the adult education division of Greenville County Schools. Programs are for adults who want to continue their basic education. Students may enroll 3 months prior to their 17th birthday in some instances with a recommendation from their school. Each student has his/her own education plan. Students can work toward a high school diploma or prepare to take the GED test. Classes are available at several locations during the day and in the evening. Greenville County Schools  -  Satellite Diploma Program -DIPLOMA


The GCS Satellite Diploma Program offers an opportunity for qualifying students to earn a High School Diploma using virtual instruction in an Adult Education setting.  The program is cost-free and limited transportation is available, but space is extremely limited and students must contact their guidance counselor to see if they qualify.


GEAR Program - Greenville County Workforce Development -DIPLOMA and GED  

'GEAR' (Greenville Employment and Academics Resources) is focusing on assisting eligible youth between the ages of 17 and 21 to obtain employment which may also include educational attainment. GEAR will partner with today’s young adults to get onto the road to success. This may include any combination of fee assistance with educational opportunities, high-demand occupational training, supportive services, paid work experience, on-the-job (OJT) training, job development and placement assistance, goal attainment incentives, career counseling and much more. United Ministries Adult Education and Employment Readiness -GED


United Ministries provides a free nontraditional GED program for students who are 17 & older. Staff and volunteer teachers work one-on-one with students to get ready for the GED. Students attend as often as they can for help preparing for the GED at their own pace and new students are accepted daily. After obtaining a GED, United Ministries will assist students with college and job training opportunities. Testing / Study Hours: Mon/Tu/Th: 8am-7pm & Wed: 8am-12noon. Delta Point -GED


The GED Preparation Program is offered to students who did not complete high school and score at a 9th grade level or above on both the math and reading comprehension sections of the diagnostic test.   GED instructors work with students to master the skills and prepare for the exam. Job Corps (Bamberg Job Corps Center) -DIPLOMA and GED 


Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 learn a trade, earn a high school diploma or GED and get help finding a good job. Students are paid a monthly allowance; the longer a student stays in the program, the more the allowance will be. Wil Lou Gray is a structured, residential, military-style environment that emphasizes both academic and life-skills education.  Specializing in helping at-risk young people (ages 16 through 19) move past the obstacles in their lives to achieve success.  Wil Lou Gray helps prepare and register students for the GED.

South Carolina Youth Challenge Academy –GED
