SC Graduation Requirements


Graduation requirements: 


Students are required to earn 24 credits in order to receive a high school diploma. The requirements are as follows.


English:  4 credits---English I, English II, English III, and English IV

Math:  4 credits

Science:  3 credits (one must be a science with an EOC test)

Social Studies: 3 credits--- U.S. History, Government .5, Econ .5, 1 other social studies

Foreign language or CTE (career class):  1 credit

PE1 or JROTC:  1 credit

Computer Science:  1 credit

Electives:  7 credits (starting with the Class of 2027, students must have at least a .5 credit of Personal Finance)

 


Promotion requirements:


9th grade to 10th grade: must have earned 6 credits (1 must be English, 1 must be math, and 4 other units)

10th grade to 11th grade: must have earned 12 credits (2 must be English, 2 must be math, 1 must be science, 1 must be social studies, and 6 other credits )

11th grade to 12th grade: must have earned 18 credits (3 must be English, 3 must be math, 2 must be science, 2 must be social studies, and 8 other electives )

 


Additional information about minimum admission requirements to four year colleges and Universities:


Four year colleges and Universities require 2 years of foreign language as a minimum admission requirement---but more is better (Clemson requires 3 years of the same foreign language).

Public four year colleges and Universities in South Carolina require 3 lab sciences---Integrated Science does not count as a lab science.

Public four year colleges and Universities in South Carolina require one fine arts credit (chorus, band, art, or drama).
