Step-by-Step FAFSA Guide - Provided by Standout College Prep
MAJOR Changes to FAFSA Application
The changes will provide a more streamlined application process, expanded eligibility for federal financial aid, reduced barriers for certain student populations, and a better user experience for the FAFSA form. FAFSA simplification will be implemented in phases, with full implementation of major provisions in the 2024–25 Award Year. The new process features:
Reduced number of questions from 108 to about 36
Aligns more questions on FAFSA with federal income tax returns
Automatic transfer of IRS data to the FAFSA
Increases aid eligibility for single parents
Decreases aid eligibility for middle- and high-income families
Shift in focus away from cash flow to a slightly greater emphasis on wealth
Reduced likelihood of verification because fewer questions and more data transferred from the IRS
New Federal Pell Grant formula

WIN: SC Career Ready Test
School Test Date: November 2nd (Select Seniors)
Why take the test?! It’s free. It’s easy. Whether you are looking for work or preparing for college, it will make you stand out and give you a competitive advantage to help prove that you have the right skills for the work ahead. The South Carolina Ready to Work Credentials may be used as an indicator of readiness for on-the-job training, apprenticeship, and employment.
SC SEALS OF DISTINCTION
South Carolina students now have the opportunity to earn an optional Seal of Distinction before graduating. Please review the criteria to see if you meet one of the four seals!
Parchment Accounts
The Seals of Distinction are awarded by the South Carolina Department of Education in the form
of digital credentials issued via the Parchment application.
Students must possess a Parchment account to claim their Seal of Distinction digital
credential(s.)
Students with established Parchment accounts:
The post graduate email address entered into PowerSchool MUST match the students’ personal
email address associated with their Parchment account. If initially linked to a district email
address, students’ Parchment accounts must be updated with their personal email address before
the student loses access to that district email address. This can be accomplished by the student
after logging into their Parchment account.
Students without established Parchment accounts:
Students without established Parchment accounts must create an account associated with their
personal email address stored in the Post Graduate Email field. This account can be created at
any time, including after receipt of the notification email from the South Carolina Department of
Education.
