Always have at least 1 school that will be your "back up plan"...meaning, you are 100% certain you will be able to attend that school.
Find 3 to 5 schools that you believe will be a "perfect fit"....meaning, based on your GPA, SAT/ACT scores, experiences, etc. you have a very good chance of being accepted into the school.
Pick 1 school you would consider to be a "dream school" or "reach school"...meaning, you aren't sure you'd be accepted into the school, but if you were, it would be your first choice.
Don't be afraid to apply out of state. Many schools offer considerably surprising financial aid packages that sometimes make out-of-state a more viable option than even in-state! Always consider the tuition of the school and make financially responsible decisions for your future.
