This is my 14th year of teaching and my 3rd year teaching here at Plain Elementary. I have loved being here at Plain and working with all of these amazing young artists! I received my Bache
I love working with so many different mediums but my absolute favorite mediums to work in are clay, charcoal and book making. I also enjoy knitting and sewing!
My husband and I are so blessed to have two young children and a dog that keep us very busy when we are not working. We love to cook together, play outside, and read books!

1st Nine Weeks Grades K5- Fifth Grade:
Unit 1- Elements and Principles of Art
Students will begin the year learning about line, shape, color, form, space, value, texture
Art Learning and Developmental Goals Goals and long range plans are based on the National and South Carolina Visual Arts Standards for Grades K-5. These standards are summarized below: SC College- and Career- Ready Standards for Visual and Performing Arts Proficiency (2017) Visual Arts VA Creating: I can make artwork using a variety of materials, techniques, and processes. The Greenville County Schools Elementary Art Curriculum is divided into 4 units for each grade level, corresponding with the 4 nine weeks of the school year. A summary is below. 1st 9 Weeks Unit 1 Standards 1, 2, and 6. These standards are introduced during Unit 1 and are repeated and used throughout the school year. Students will use and explore a variety of art materials, tools, and techniques. They will learn about and use the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. They will explore the role of visual art throughout a variety of cultures and historical periods. 2nd 9 Weeks Unit 2 Standards 3 and 5. During this unit, the students will learn about improving their art, talking about their art and the art of others, and creating/interpreting meaning in works of art. 3rd 9 Weeks Unit 3 Standard 4. During Unit 3, the students will prepare art for display and presentation. They will explore places where art is created and displayed. This unit corresponds with our annual school-wide art show. 4th 9 Weeks Unit 4 During Unit 4, the students will explore how art can be a career, how it connects to other school subjects and disciplines and how art connects the world around them. Specific project types, ideas, and subject matter will be determined by the art teacher and are subject to change depending on supplies, student interest and need. Each grade level will work with clay. Each grade level will participate in an annual school-wide Art Show in the Spring. Some work from each child will be held for the Art Show, and sent home after the show is complete. Students in grades 3-5 will be making sketchbooks at the beginning of the school year. These books will be used for student ideas, practice drawings, journaling, and as a given assignment throughout the school year. People have been making art for all of time. Students will explore, interpret, and discuss famous artwork in relation to every lesson and project in art. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of art media, art history, technique, and processes with the intent of furthering their understanding, perception, appreciation, expression and confidence in visual art.

Performance will be measured based on the SC Visual Arts Standards.
M = Meets standards
P = Progressing towards standards
Each student will receive an M or a P
Assessment in Art is maintained primarily through teacher observation, student participation, project rubrics and checklists. Grades will be reported on student report cards.
