Students will connect to the school’s Internet wirelessly. Students are able to connect to home and public wireless access points as well after Authenticating. (Parents are asked not to change the Internet settings since this may prevent students from getting online at school. Devices should connect to home wireless networks without changing the settings.)
By checking Offline Sync in your Google Drive settings, you can access most of your work, edit documents, and create new ones when you don't have access to Wi-Fi. *Please note that you will need to be connected to Wi-Fi to enable Offline Sync.
Access your Google Drive at school in order to change your settings. Select the Settings icon (gear) in the top right corner of your Google Drive. A window will appear that features several Google Drive Settings options.
Check the box next to Offline that says "Sync your work to this computer so that you can edit offline."
You now should be able to create or edit Google Documents, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings. Some features may not work offline, such as adding images, but there is still plenty you can do in the meantime.
Once you reconnect to a Wi-Fi network, log into your Google Drive and the changes you made while offline will update!
Access Backpack and follow these instructions.
Students are required to bring their device to school every day, fully charged. Students who fail to consistently bring their device to school may lose the privilege of taking it home.
Students should not download any applications unless approved by the teacher.
Students should not attempt to connect personal accounts (such as iTunes) to the device.
Students will turn in their device if leaving their school. If a student transfers out of district, devices must be returned to the school or they will be reported stolen.
Devices will be monitored by teachers and administrators for inappropriate content.
Students are not to download or access inappropriate material at home or at school.
Students are never to give their login information to other students.
Students are to remember that if they give their device to others to use, the student is responsible for any content viewed on the device, any material downloaded, and any damage that may occur while it is out of their possession.
If the device has a lid or a cover, it should be closed or put on the device in order to protect it.
Do not lift up or hold the device by the screen.
Do not place books or other heavy items on the device, as this may cause the screen to crack.
Do not use the device around food or liquid. If carrying the device in a backpack, be sure liquid cannot spill on the device.
Do not leave the device in a hot/cold car for long periods of time.
Be careful when plugging devices in that it doesn’t create a tripping hazard.
Only clean the device screen with a damp cloth or a disinfecting wipe. Do not spray or pour liquid on the screen or keyboard as this may damage it.
Never leave your device unattended, especially in public areas.
Students will retain their same device for 6th-8th grade at RCMS. Therefore, students will follow all school rules, procedures, and expectations for the care of devices to ensure the longevity of devices.
To conserve battery life, Chromebooks should be "shut down" and not used to charge other devices (ie: cell phone).
Students are responsible for bringing a fully charged Chromebook with them to school each day. Students should leave the power cord at home and charge the Chromebook overnight much like they would do with their cell phone.
The battery life of the Chromebook is approximately 10.5 hours. Therefore, a fully charged Chromebook should have no issues with being charged throughout the school day. Closing all additional unused tabs will help to prolong the life of your battery.
Only in emergency situations would a student have access to charge their Chromebook with a teacher.
Failure to bring a fully charged Chromebook to RCMS on a repeated basis could have a negative impact on students and their schoolwork.
The Chromebook and charger marked with the barcode will be returned to RCMS administration after end of year testing. Also, if a student transfers out of RCMS during the school year, the Chromebook and charger must be returned at that time to the Media Center. Equipment not returned will be marked as lost/stolen and replacement fines will be added to the student's account.
All applicable consequences for students having an outstanding debt will apply if Chromebooks and/or the charger are not returned.
If a student's equipment is not returned during the year-end check-in or upon transferring out of the district, the device will be treated as stolen, law enforcement will be notified and a fine for replacement will be placed on the student account.
