Your log in is your first initial followed by the next five letters of your last name, then the last four numbers of your student ID. Your password is your birthdate, two numbers for the month, two numbers for the day and the two numbers of the year.  For example, Jane Browning ID#39485, birthdate of March 21, 2007 would log in with jbrown9485 PW:032107.

How do I change my password?

Access Backpack and follow these instructions.

Chromebook Care

To avoid major screen damage

The Chromebook may be gently wiped down with a baby-wipe type cloth and then dried with a soft dry cloth.

How is one student’s Chromebook identified from another student's Chromebook?

Each device has a serial number which has been recorded as part of the student’s PowerSchool profile. Found Chromebooks are brought to the Media Center to be scanned and the owner identified.

Chromebook Cases?

Not every Chromebook was distributed with a case. Students are encouraged to purchase their own case to help protect their Chromebook.

Can students remove the identification sticker on their Chromebook or decorate the lid with drawings and/or other stickers?

No. Do not draw on the Chromebook or attach anything that can't be easily removed.

Can students take their Chromebook home?

Yes.  Students are expected to take their device home each night to fully charge, complete homework, study for tests and complete class projects either individually or collaboratively with their peers.

What do students do when their device is not functioning properly?

Steps to follow are listed on the Reporting Damages or Issues page.

Will earbuds be necessary and, if so, will they be provided?

Each student will need to supply their own earbuds.

Can students bring their own wireless mouse to use with their Chromebook?

Yes, but it is the student’s responsibility to keep up with it.

What devices can be connected to a Chromebook?

USB storage devices, mice and keyboards; SIM cards; SD cards; external monitors and projectors (via HDMI); headphones, earbuds, microphones.
Do not charge your phone from the Chromebook.

Are there any areas of the school where the Chromebook will not be allowed?

Yes. The cafeteria and bathrooms are Chromebook free zones.

Will the Chromebook replace my child's textbooks?

In most instances, the District will continue using their current textbooks at this time. Several courses have access to online materials from the textbook companies and will be used where appropriate. Having a Chromebook will allow the teacher to utilize a broad range of online resources and materials.

What happens if students do not bring their Chromebook to class?

This may result in disciplinary action such as, but not limited to, lunch detentions, In-School Suspensions, and Day User status. Each teacher will communicate with his/her students clear directions for class activities with or without the Chromebook.

My child has restricted Chromebook privileges. How are they supposed to complete their work?

Restriction of Chromebook privileges means a student will have access to their Chromebook at school, but may no longer take it home. Students may still have access to google apps for education and Google classroom at home on a laptop or a computer connected to the Internet to complete assignments when needed.

Is low cost internet service available?

Students with no broadband at home will be assisted by the district with accessing a program that helps low-income families get Internet service for $5 to $10 per month. Visit http://everyoneon.org/greenville for more information.  Also, hot spots are available in limited supply.  Contact Mrs. Ivie at 864-452-0311 for more information.

What if we don’t have internet at home?

Please contact Ms. Ivie 452-0311 to see if a Hot Spot may be available for you to use. While a Chromebook does require WiFi for much of its functionality, there are several features that can be utilized offline. Students and staff will receive training on what can be done without an internet connection so that time spent at home with the Chromebook is most effective. Visit this link: Working Offline

Can home printers be used for Chromebook printing?

If your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network and supports the Google CloudPrint protocol, you should be able to print from your Chromebook to your home printer. Unfortunately, connecting your printer via a USB cable to your Chromebook will not work. Chromebooks print wirelessly.

Setting up CloudPrint differs by manufacturer and model, so you will need your printer's documentation (usually available via the manufacturer's web site if you no longer have the manual). Before attempting CloudPrint setup it is important to ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Refer to your user manual or the manufacturer's website for instructions on updating your printer.

Will students be allowed to download Apps and Extensions from the Chrome Web Store?

Students are restricted from added Apps and Extensions. Approved Apps and Extensions are pushed out at the school level. Students are limited to just these Apps and Extensions.

Can the district track web history?

Yes. The district can track information on what sites students were on, when they were on them, and how long they were on those sites.

Will the district’s internet filter and privacy regulation carry over on the device at home?

Yes, the district’s internet filter will be enforced while the student is on campus as well as off campus. Students have no expectation of confidentiality or privacy with respect to any usage of a district issued Chromebook, regardless of whether that use is for district-related or personal purposes. The District may, without prior notice or consent, log, supervise, access, view, monitor, and record use of student Chromebooks at any time for any reason related to the operation of the District. By using a Chromebook, students agree to such access, monitoring, and recording of their use.  Make sure you "Authenticate" when using your Chromebook off campus.
