Contact GCS Student Tech Support at 864-355-HELP(4357) for help with school-issued devices when virtual learning.
If a student has changed and then forgotten their password, or if for any reason their password is not working, teachers who have a student enrolled in one of their classes that year have the ability to reset the student's password. Teachers cannot recover or "look up" a forgotten password. It must be reset.
Log into your Backpack. Under the "Students/Contacts" tab, search for the student and click on "Reset Password".
Follow the onscreen instructions: confirm that you have selected the correct student, then click the red "Reset Password" button.
Have the student log in on their device using their district username and the supplied temporary password. On the next screen they will be prompted create a new password by entering it twice. Completing this step will allow them to sign into their Chromebook.
To ensure the password has changed across all GCS student platforms, have the student sign back out then sign back in with their new password.
Encourage the student to write their new password down someplace safe until they have memorized it.
To request that a site be blocked or unblocked, teachers should use the WebBlock Request Form.
Log in using your district username (not email address) and password.
Fill out the form provided.
You will receive an email from the district in response to your request, either approving or denying your request. Please note: not all sites can be unblocked -- even if they're just for teachers -- as there are certain security credentials that must be met. This is for the safety of not only your information, but others' as well.
If students tell you that a video is blocked on YouTube and they are unable to view it, first make sure the student has gone to YouTube and that they are logged in with their district account. (This is often a problem if you have embedded a video on your website or pulled it into another website, like EdPuzzle.)
If the video is still blocked for students, you will need to request that it be unblocked using the GCS YouTube Video Approval Request Form.
Log in using your district username (not email address) and password.
Fill out the form provided.
You will receive an email notifying you whether your request has been approved or denied. This decision will depend on the full content of the video and any age restrictions set by the video creator. Please Note: It may take up to 72 hours for a video to be approved.
The Google global educator community did a cool thing! They created a library of videos in 9 different languages addressing common teaching and learning challenges with Google Classroom. This series was created by educators, for educators. 😊
