Damaged Devices

When it Breaks

The student is responsible for their assigned Chromebook and charger. They know best when it is not working properly. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to report damages or malfunctions immediately upon realizing something is wrong. Failure to do so could ultimately cause further damage or safety issues.

Parents/guardians and teachers who notice damage on a student device are asked to report the damage as soon as possible.

Student Tech Support

In-Person Students

For Chromebook assistance, in-person students may come see Mrs. Wylie in room G-120 (ISS Room) during the following times:

On eLearning days, students or parents can contact Student Tech Support at 864-355-HELP(4357) for assistance with school-issued devices.

Virtual Students

Students or parents can contact Student Tech Support at 864-355-HELP(4357) for assistance with school-issued devices. For physical repairs, please bring your Chromebook and charger to Mauldin Middle School.

Accidental/Incidental Damage

The student reports Chromebook damages immediately and turns it in for repair. The student may be supplied with a loaner Chromebook (based on availability) until their assigned device is repaired.

Intentional Damage

The cost of repairs for intentional damage is the responsibility of the student. The cost will be for the parts required to repair the device, or the cost of a replacement device (whichever is lower). Cost of labor is covered.

Students who cause intentional damage will have limited or no access to a replacement device until the cost of repair/replacement has been paid.

Repairs

Chromebook breaks are usually unintentional, but they do happen. Certified technicians will review the damages and repair anything considered accidental or due to "wear-and-tear", per warranty.

Students and parents/guardians should not attempt to repair Chromebooks themselves or take it to a non-Greenville County Schools repair center. Doing so may cause additional and more expensive damage, will void the warranty on the device.

If your Chromebook is damaged, malfunctioning, lost or stolen, please see Mrs. Wylie (room G-120) during Tech Help hours. (If you are eLearning, students can visit the nearest Career Center for repairs.) You will be provided with another Chromebook and/or charger while your device is being repaired.

Intentional damages caused to the device will be treated as damage to school property and will be subject to consequences for their actions. In the case of intentional damage, a parent/guardian will be notified and the cost for parts to repair the device must be paid by the student before they will be issued another Chromebook.

If the cost to repair the Chromebook exceeds the cost of a new Chromebook, the lower cost option will be applied.

Chromebooks save files to the student's Google Drive (associated with their student account). All settings, apps, extensions and files are backed up online and will still be available on assigned devices. No need to wait for repairs!

Students can also access their work from any device by logging into Google with their school email address.

Fines & Fees

* Even if part of the charger is returned, the full fee will still be charged. This is because the school is unable to order partial replacement parts, and must purchase an entirely new charger.

Fees can be paid in full or on a payment plan set up with the school.

Fees and fines are assessed based on the cost of the items. There are no "up-charges", and replacements come direct from the manufacturer.
