The PSAT/NMSQT Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This test is used to qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship Program and other scholarships.
In the Greenville County Schools public school district, enrolled students are offered the PSAT/NMSQT for free in the 10th Grade and for a fee in the 11th Grade during the FALL SEMESTER. (Non-enrolled students may apply to their zoned, attendance-area public high school to take the PSAT in the 10th and 11th Grades.)
This test is optional, but it serves as a good indication of how they will perform on the SAT. Depending on the score, by taking this test is a way to qualify for National Merit Scholarships.
Parents and students can find more information on the College Board website: Parent's Guide to the PSAT.
