Greenspire Survivor

November 14-January 13

Driving Question

Will you unlock the skills from the past to survive quarter 2?

Project Overview

Students will research how early humans lived and survived to learn how to survive in a worst case scenario in modern times.

In Social Studies, students will learn the basic features and differences between hunter-gatherer societies and pastoral nomads. They will analyze and explain the geographic, environmental, biological, and cultural processes that influenced the rise of the earliest human communities, the migration and spread of people throughout the world, and the causes and consequences of the growth of agriculture.

In Outdoor Education, students will learn basic first aid skills as well as basic survival skills such as fire building and water collection to learn how hunter-gatherers and pastoral nomads survived. They will also learn techniques for helping during a first aid event and how to get someone to safety if needed.

In Math,  students will be designing a structure they could build in the wilderness to fit their team using themselves as dimensions. The structure will include the use of the Pythagorean's Theorem, area, surface area, and volume.
